Match Thread - Port Vale v Bury

he was one of the best players I've seen at Vale Park for many years. Quality.
Agree. He was however given the freedom of Vale Park by our midfield, no one got anywhere near him all match. I couldn't believe we allowed him so much space. Why didn't we at least try and put a man marker on him as it was patently obvious from the start he was their main creative force. As a Valiant I loved that we won but my day of entertainment was made by him. Well done Number 10, do you want a contract at Vale, please?

Proper rate Bury. Good club. Clapped for the first minutes applause. Should be very close to top 7 this year

For a club that went down with a whimper last year and never seems to be too far away from a financial crisis, I’ve been impressed by how they’ve managed to put together an extremely competitive squad (and wage budget clearly) this season.

Something we haven’t quite managed in two summers since our own relegation.

I totally agree, thank god that they could not finish today.

I don’t deny the response to Lincoln has been good. But I think back to the days when we used to attack teams at home with wingers (JMW, Vincent, Andoh etc). Ttoday we could well have been the away team. The home support is dwindling - just 3,700 today - so I don’t think I’m the only one bored of the negative tactics. But equally neither do I want to see us out of the league, unlike seemingly our useless owner. Wouldn’t it be nice to think that one day we could have a player like Danny Mayor? We don’t play through the midfield, we just aimlessly boot the ball forward towards Pope.

You'll see the difference when Manny comes back into midfield. Going forward we're nothing without him.

Their fans seemed reasonably complimentary about us

Not the first time we’ve been given more credit on another forum than on our own!

Aspo has found an effective way of playing without our 2 most creative players (Manny and Monty), and yet many many an because we are not performing like Barcelona.

He has constantly been told if you keep signing non league players then that’s where you’ll end up, but Hannant already looks accomplished at this level, Rawlinson is well on the wat to the same, and Vassell looks like he could be the next.

We sit comfortably in mid table, 6 points off the play offs, 11 points above the relegation zone, and 9 points above the big spending pre season favourites Notts County.

We are not perfect, but we are moving steadily in the right direction.

I will enjoy my evening, Neil and the boys deserve to enjoy theirs also

Not asking to be like Barcelona... Bury would be an improvement.

Three points is three points, and we’re all thankful for them, but first halves like that are not sustainable, in an attempt to grind out results every week.

I’m sure that most of the teams who come to Vale Park, haven’t all got such superior players, but why are the majority able to move the ball around with ease, compared to us, the “home team”?

The second half difference was because we closed Bury down far quicker, allowing us to occasionally nick possession and enjoy brief spells ourselves, hence the goal.

The management must see this flick on and hope something drops approach, as the way to go, complete with the odd set back built in but it’s utterly dire to watch and opens up the floodgates of criticism when we don’t get a result.

Given the the situation we’ve had to suffer over the past few years, then yes it’s progress, drivel or not.

On balance, the opportunity that the next couple of months gives us, means that we should be able to show some attacking intent. Then again, we had that opportunity against the mighty Grimsby, but blew it by trying to stay in the game, a task that proved beyond us.

Still, we love The Vale and we, who must be the most patient fans in the country, just want to see better and apart from citing individuals failin, can’t understand why it’s still beyond us to see a glimmer of attractiveness in our play.
