Sorry, I think you’re missing my point. Lainton is going (let’s hope), which means we only have 2 keepers. Can’t go into a season with only 2, a youth keeper is needed alongside them. If Brown got injured or suspended, Hornby would replace him and we’d have no one on the bench. No club is going to loan us a keeper to sit on the bench. They loan players so they can play!!

 

We all hope Lainton is going but in reality who is going to take him off our hands. What club is going to give him a contract with an injury record like his. Only hope is if Brown gets another job and signs him up and that's not likely either.

If he goes then maybe. I’d be amazed anyone takes him on. If brown gets injured we have an emergency loan. Plenty of clubs allow emergency loans to sit on the bench. We’ve had loads! Alternative is to get a loan and have hornby on the bench. If we sign two strikers, at least another winger and some full back cover first I’d be happy to have another keeper.

Do we still have youth team goalkeeper Mawgan Blight. If so, then I would say it’s reasonable that we have 1st choice Brown, 2nd Hornby 3rd youth team keeper.

 

Very rarely would you have two goalkeepers out at the sometime and if that is the case, as Blight would have played less than 5 league games, we can get emergency loan keeper

Aren't goalkeepers important? strange comment that. In the last 18 months we have really struggled in that department and have lost numerous points. Would have not gone down the season before if we had got a decent keeper when Alnwick left and this season too would have had several more points if Brown had signed a decent keeper.

Barnett was a foolish signing, in that his playing style is very similar to Pope's.

We have two first team keepers and a young keeper. If we get injuries we use the loan system. We have much bigger priorities.

Think we can only use the loan system if all senior keepers are injured under new rules.

Turner is 20 this month. If he ends up going out on loan that's the end of his time at the club. Its a big pre-season for him because he either makes it on to the bench as a minimum, or he's probably released at the end of the season. There's a lot of potential but its still not quite clear what his role is. Last season he probably could have done with at least half a season somewhere, but at 20 he's got to start delivering a little more than he has.

Effectiveness and workrate aside, Barnett and Pope's main attribute is their strength and aerial ability, playing with their back to goal alongside a player who is more willing/able to pick passes and get in behind.

 

I'm in no way comparing the two forwards ability and success, just stylistically they were similar kinds of striker and therefore Barnett was always going to struggle to impose himself.

I agree on paper they look similar players and should have been a like for like swap, but one of thems workrate and application dwarved the others.

Didn't see much of Barnett last season but in the match highlights I saw, he simply didn't look motivated. I hope we make the signings Aspo wants because if we have to rely on him even for back up when he's on the list, I can't see us getting much from him.
