Brexit again...

I find it kind of amusing that expats are so despised. Like they are all pensioners living it up on the Costa de la Sal.

We've lived in NL for 30 years, paying our tax, minding our own business. Brought up two kids here, speak the lingo, own our own gaffe.

Now we are getting a **** load of letters from the government here. We've all had to take a trip to the alien police, and still our situation is unclear. And we never even got a vote.

Sure it works the other way around for EU people in the UK, but is this not any way to treat people just going about their law abiding business?

On our street in down town Gouda we are the second longest living there. We are well known good members of the community. Now, suddenly, through matters beyond our control, we are aliens, this is not a nice feeling.

Apart from the second paragraph......

Welcome to my world.

No fun is it? I think we will be okay. But that is more hope than expectation at this point.

Thailand is a different ball game than the EU but if you want to be in the game you have to play by their rules... and it's not always easy and creates uncertainty as with the EU now.

Just to highlight the differences..... to retire to Thailand....

You have to deposit £20,000 in a Thai bank which you then can't touch.

Return to immigration every year to renew visa with money still in bank.

You can't open a bank account without visa.

Can't buy a house because farangs can't own land.

Buying a car is difficult.

Credit is difficult.

Prices are different for farangs.

And on and on and on.

All the time with uncertainty of visa rule changes, government changes, law changes and not knowing what some of the rather silly laws are until you find them.

I.E. you break the law if you don't wear underpants..... yeh I know.

It is illegal to possess a vape appliance or to bring them into the country.

Les majest laws are extreme and enforced..... a bad word about the king of any era can get you 20 years.

I know this has nothing to do with your situation but I can understand your uncertainty and concerns about your future position... it's precarious at the moment and disturbing.... a bit like the sword on Damocles... I hope it turns out well for you and your family.

Where is your evidence That a majority voted to leave only with a No deal. Nobody knows that is why there will probably be a referendum

The evidence was implicit in the ballot paper question...for further clarification please see my replies to 'The godfather/Yukon' posts earlier!!!

At the end of the day it's common sense....clearly though common sense doesn't mean much these days

There is a large majority that are living it up...the baby boom generation whom had long working lives in manufacturing jobs and ended up with great pensions...that;s before we talk about the likes of potbank middle managers and above whose income derived from cracking the whip over the companies workforces

We've lived in NL for 30 years, paying our tax, minding our own business. Brought up two kids here, speak the lingo, own our own gaffe.

Many don't 'own their own gaffe' despite working long hours and breaking sweat in low paid miserly employments working all hours under the sun

Now we are getting a **** load of letters from the government here. We've all had to take a trip to the alien police, and still our situation is unclear. And we never even got a vote.

Now you are starting to understand how the working classes are treated in the UK and how any money they do earn are pursued vigorously when they miss a week's rent or council tax. Not to mention the DWP's handling of people out of work through no fault of their own and their evil policy of making people wait weeks for any money and sanctions etc Try being an alien in your own country....many are!

You are consistent whether it's your supposed no deal, or the treatment of the working classes, it's absolute rubbish.

Load of socialist claptrap.

I'm many things but certainly no socialist

Stop swearing at me I work for a living and just as hard as you and many before you whom 'own their own gaffes'

I'm certainly no socialist...thought you had to be rich to be that. Highly offended that you should even assume as such

I did a test online and got this result after answering 20 questions

You believe in democracy but hold that social equality is the most important aim of a good government. You loathe the gap between the rich and poor and find that public health care, welfare, insurance, and education help reduce injustice and unfairness. You are in favor of high taxes on the rich.

Your ideal country is a democracy with a fair income distribution maintained by a strong government. The closest real - life countries to this are Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Most democratic countries have a Socialist, Social Democrat or Labour Party which would suit you'

I don't think either Labour nor Conservative fit the bill for any of the above paragraph. I have been anti EU because of the effect it is having on the lower working classes and that cannot be denied

Some people are just too selfish and afraid of giving opportunities to other people because of what they will lose. It boils down to insecurity and why many do not want to leave the EU...remainers in a nutshell

Let’s get real.

The only reason the EU are holding us to ransom is because clowns like Comrade Corbyn and Tony Blair are undermining Teresa May by saying we must have a second referendum and a third if they lose.

The EU won’t give us a decent deal because these idiots are telling the EU to not give us a good deal.

They should be arrested and locked in the tower as traitors.

Tony Blair should be arrested for war crimes and sent to The Hague.

Corbyn is just a two faced snake saying anything he thinks will give him a political advantage to displace the government instead of doing what we voted for to leave the EU.

His idea that we stay in the customs union is not Brexit.I hope the local MP,s enjoy their remaining time because they will all be voted out at the next elections for not carrying out the wishes of their constituents who voted to leave.

I was a middle Manager in the pottery industry and haven’t got a great pension.

Also cracking the whip was not the best way to get the best out of your workforce as they had plenty of other options to find work as there were plenty of jobs about.

The problem is many people who haven’t got jobs because of no fault of their own will not accept jobs where they have to work for a living and expect silly money for doing a basic job.

There's 10s of millions of people in this country worried about our rights being eroded and our quality of life being reduced through matters beyond our control. We are law abiding and simply want a better life for everyone living here.

Not knocking you by the way.
