Tom Anderson recalled by Burnley, and loaned out

The dark clouds are gathering around the club once again.

I read many examples of Potteries pessimism on here but this must be the best/worst yet.

We salvaged a point on Saturday and we have an excellent chance this Saturday to put a 10-point gap between us and the bottom two.

We've had a player recalled, like lots of clubs do.

What on earth makes this a "dark clouds" scenario?

Not always. Remember Chris Martin going on loan to Fulham from Derby?

Derby changed managers and wanted to recall him in January but couldn't due to the terms of the loan. Even Martin wanted to return to Derby but had to see out the full season with Fulham!

Slightly different if the player is playing and the club he is playing for want him to stay, wouldn't you agree?

I liked Tom. He was committed and gave all he could every game.

I would agree with that but he obviously hasn't been recalled by Burnley to play in their first team, he hasn't got the pace or distribution skills to play Premier League football. I strongly suspect they've got a buyer for him who'll pay out rather than wait for him to get a free in the summer. Chesterfield, maybe? That would be painful.

Joe Davis has played enough games at centre half in L1 to be expected to do a competent job there in L2 so he's the obvious choice time now to replace Anderson. It may be the chance he needs to prove himself to Aspo.
Hopefully a ray of sunshine as the dark clouds gather!!!!!!!!

All business have risks that they must manage. Football clubs have more than most, they have the risk of losing customers and therefore money. They have the risk of players getting injured, they risk losing players because they want to move elsewhere or because we borrowed them and their employer has recalled them. There is the risk of loss of form, red card and suspension. There is risk of illness, and all the other myriad risks that employers face every day.

We just have to live with it. In terms of centre backs we have Smith, Davis, Kay, Jules. We really need a left back, let's see what the next couple of days bring. However let's not create a drama out of a crisis that does not exist.

It is disappointing to lose Tom, but that's the risk business Port Vale are in.

2nd defender from Burnley this month, if so, plus 3 others from elsewhere.

At the end of the day it really does depend on who Vale can get in, IMHO we really need a quality Central Defender with Lge 1/2 experience at least, someone who can hit the ground running, it really is time to "Do what it takes" financially and the rational is there for all the players to see.

We do have Smith, Davis, Kay and Jules but an injury to one of the first three and Vale are threadbare at the back and it now is the business end of the season.

We've just lost arguably our most consistent defender from an already threadbare squad, we're still hovering dangerously close to the wrong end of the table, we have an increasingly disgruntled manager who is clearly unhappy with certain situations, and there is still an enormous elephant in the room. Yes, we've lost one player today, but consider the bigger picture.
