Given they've spent about 4 minutes in the proper football league I'm not too concerned.

 

Our opening day record is surprisingly good and has been for a long time, since Walsall 2003/4 when Paynter got sent off springs to mind.

I've got no idea where either us or the opposition are up to in the grand scheme of things. The bookies have Vale as favourites for this one.

 

A few people seem to be tipping Crawley to struggle this season as well - is that fair?

A defeat to the team ranked as 2nd favourites to be relegated would be a nightmare start.

I think we will win 2-1.

This is a game we should win but the most important thing is that we don't lose. We need to get off to a positive start and create the kind of winning mentality that we lacked last season. It certainly won't be a disaster if we lose but the impact of going down to one of the teams favourite for relegation would not be the ideal start to the season.

 

If I have any worries about the game, it's our lack of creativity in midfield and the absence of a proper left back. Crawley will have scouted us and will have their plan to expose our weaknesses. I just hope we've done the same.

Yeah it's only 6 years I believe? I'm actually curious about ours, I feel like it's been good, might look into it...

Bradford - D 0-0

Crewe - D 0-0

Walsall - D 1-1

Brentford - D 1-1

Barnet - W 3-0

Crawley - D 2-2

Bury - W 1-0

Rochdale - D 1-1

Luton - W 3-1

Bristol R - D 1-1

Leyton Orient - W 3-0

Southend W 2-1

Walsall L 3-2

 

So since that Walsall game (in 04/05), we've won 5, drawn 7 & lost 0 on the opening day. Quite surprised, thought it was good, but not that good!
