Matchday Thread: Port Vale v Peterborough Utd

Im worried that if we go down under Brown he will be sacked and not given a chance , gone are the days like when we went down with Rudge and the rest is history , the modern game isn't like that anymore im afraid!!

I hope we stick with him, I'm liking what I've seen so far and feel he's doing the right things to improve us and make us more competitive.

Regarding the game on Saturday, I can see an extremely busy deadline day tomorrow so expect a few new faces.

A new keeper, centre half, winger and a striker are required.

As Smurf has messed up massively with this ridiculous release clause for Alnwick, Brown needs to be given the full £250k to improve the squad and stay in the division.

I'm seeing positive signs from our recent performances. Results maybe not come our way, but if we continue to play like we have then the results will follow.

It's disappointing to lose Alnwick as I'm sure we will in the next 48 hours. I wasn't sure about him when he arrived (Certainly after he picked up that backpass against Gillingham!) but he's gone on to be a wonderful player and we will certainly miss him. I would imagine that Brown and co knew this could happen and must have an alternative plan. I can't help but feel that Kirkland's arrival at the club, when we'd already picked up a GK coach is significant. I would think Kirkland will be given a squad number before Peterborough.

As for Grant, I couldn't care less if he goes. Whilst he's been a good player for us overall, he's a liability discipline wise and hasn't been good the last 6 weeks or so. Brown will like his ball-winning skills, but probably can't stand how slow he is playing the ball. I think in Brown's system we're better off without him. A midfield lineup made up of Guy & Foley will surely be a decent pairing, with Amoros on the bench if we need him.

I think we've improved our forward line significantly just by bringing back Hooper and bringing in Walker. If we bring in another forward so be it, but I think a Keeper, right-back and winger have to be priorities in the coming days. Also get the Streete contract done!

Kirkland said on Twitter he won't play again.

"Sorry no comeback for me unfortunately, body is too sore now, the club has enough good keepers without me".

I hope we can pluck a good 2nd choice Championship keeper with a bit of experience.

As it stands for Saturday -

Boot

Purkiss

Streete

Knops (if Smith is out)

Tanser

Thomas

Guy

De Freitas

Shodipo

Walker

Hooper

With the likes of Eagles and Forrester on the bench we're suddenly looking more than decent going forward, but badly need a couple of defenders and a keeper of course if possible. Fingers crossed!

Apart from Guy, there is no-one in that side prepared to stick their boot in. And that's what worries me.

De Freitas gets stuck in, as someone else pointed out. He doesn't carry the ball as well as Grant can (when he does it in the right areas that is) but I think he's a better all-round footballer potentially, and has a higher ceiling. Guy I see as a rival for Foley in the side but of course he's only here for the short-term anyway.

Looking forward to this game! The 2 youngsters from QPR will give us the pace we have been lacking and create panic in the defence that lost 0-4 against MKD...and Granty might get a red trying to stop them! With old head Pugh in midfield, along with Foley and ADF, and JJ + 1 bossing their defence we might actually start to create spaces to exploit, but also start to defend from the front, instead of having to rely on the young ones at the back to sort it out! Relatively pleased with the work MB has done, and if Smurf has had some money back - good for him...Billy Bell did the same! And before some of you start pointing out "ahhhh...but Billy always made cash available for a replacement - yes, he did...but nothing like as much as he pocketed!

Should be a very interesting game, with the 4 new lads we have signed over the past two days. Grant playing for them, the walking yellow card himself.

Haven't got a clue what the team will be so I'll have a guess.

Fasan

Purkiss

Streete

Smith/Knopps (hope smith is fit)

Tanser

Shopido ( is that how you spell it?)

Guy

De Freitas (Foley if fit)

Thomas

JJ

Walker

1-1, Walker to score for us but they equalise late on.

The four games, Peterborough have shipped in eleven goals and only scored two.

No wonder they were desperate for Grant.

He's just one old and slow player. Our new and young speedy players will run havoc around the out of form 'Posh'and the Vale will have a field day. 3-0.

'Just one old and slow player' wait until you see Pugh in the middle for vale.

I'd go with

Boot

Purkiss

Knopps (if smith not fit)

Streete

Kiko

Thomas

De Freitas

Guy

QPR lad

Hooper

Walker

Bench

Forrester

Foley

Amaros

Tavares

QPR lad

Eagles

Tanser

Looks so poor at the back imo.
