I will be very surprised if May is selected given the overwhelming out vote in the referendum. If May does get in there is a danger that she will back track on the whole EU exit, which I understand Article 50 has to be triggered within a certain time.

 

 

Anyone else smell a rat? If this EU exit is not handled properly there will be riots

 

May has said she won't trigger article 50 this year, I was under the impression MPs are supposed to represent the majority of the people that voted in a democratic election, not ignore them and go which ever way they want.

MPs represent the members of the party that they belong to usually, how they vote in parliament determines what happens. Until they know what they are voting for nothing usually happens, holidays start soon, so I cannot see a rush.

It it was up for vote I would be looking for the "NONE OF THE ABOVE" box to make my mark in.

So if she is elected we can expect another war over the Falklands and in Northern Ireland, 10 per cent interest rates, pub bombings and 3 and a half million jobless I guess.

I wonder if she will find some nice celebrities to invite round at Christmas for several years running, like Thatcher did with Jimmy So-vile, and appoint cabinet ministers with 'unusual tastes'.

The referendum was advisory not mandatory. I would think it makes sense for the government to take time to work out exactly what they want to happen before they trigger Article 50. The wheels of government grind very slowly.

There's now a legal challenge to Article 50.Apparently it must be discussed and voted on in Parliament.

Indeed. The fallout of not doing so, would mean a lot of people who have engaged with politics deciding not to bother again if their vote is essentially worth nothing. That is setting a very dangerous precedent.
