Thursday's new signings

Of the signings made so far the one I find most baffling is Quentin Pereira. His record does not make inspiring reading and he seems to have slowly declined in his career to date such that he only played 6 games in the second tier of French amateur football last season at age 23-24. Does anyone know if he's suffered major injury problems? I'm struggling to think why we would sign a player who hasn't held down a regular starting place in a team that must play at a level equivalent to our Evo Stik league? I can only hope he turns out to be like Tony Naylor who came from that level fairly late in life, or Ian Wright who did a similar thing.

Absolutely right. The guy should at least have been made to do a trial. In fact that is the usual process for most largely unknown foreign players.

It is impossible without a trial to tell how good a player from that far down the level is.

However one thing we can guarantee is that he is cheap. At least I damn well hope so!

Naylor was well scouted and trialled before signing. Perriera wasn't. Ian Wright went to prison, which damaged his early career prospects..

People can also say "ooh but Jamie Vardy came from non-league". He did but I also remember him being fairly average for Fleetwood Town against us.

Gulp!

He was signed by Stade de Reims in January 2012. He made his professional debut on 19 March, coming on for Kamel Ghilas 77 minutes into a 1–0 win over Le Mans at the MMArena.[2] He started one game for the club, a 3–2 win over Boulogne at the Stade Auguste Delaune on 1 May.[3] Stade de Reims were promoted out of Ligue 2 as runners-up in 2011–12 under head coach Hubert Fournier, and Pereira never made it onto the pitch in Ligue 1. He scored three goals in 17 Championnat de France Amateur 2 (CFA 2 - fifth tier) games for the Reserve team in the 2013–14 season. He spent the 2015–16 season in CFA 2 with RC Épernay Champagne, and scored one goal in six matches as the club were relegated into the Regional Leagues (sixth tier).

I hope he has just had some bad luck or not broken through - or the problems are behind him - like Pope etc.

Smurf has said that the manager have been scouting this players for the last two years. For the last two years he also have said he wanted a job in Championship. So i think some of the players can be wery good. So they have been scouted, the Gaffer have even been talking to them under way. The players knows him, and has been talking to him while he was scouting them.
