He got £35,000 back for Ken Beamish though.We also signed Gordon Banks as coach,beat Crwho 5-1 at their place and finished highest scorers away from home in the Football League.

 

That Crewe team were utter garbage. Didn't Nev Chamberlain score with an overhead kick in that game or am I getting mixed up? Crewe finished bottom didn't they. We didn't even finish highest away scorers in Div 4 by the way, let alone the whole league.

I'm guessing these potential American buyers already been to Vale park and had a look around the place to see what they would be getting for their money if Smurf has gone over there to (hopefully) get the deal sorted out.IF not I don't get how they could really agree to such a deal with out seeing what they would be getting.

I'm not sure it was that game Jean.. It was a fantastic bullet overhead kick which stunned the whole ground for a moment, then we all went mad! The 5-1 featured a Bernie Wright hattrick, as I recall.

 

Btw, I thought Ken Beamish was an excellent striker, always gave his all.

Correct Jacko, chamberlain did score with the overhead kick.

Bernie Wright 3,Alan bloor and Beamo, Paul Bowles scored for Crewe,remember Ged Stenson having a good game in vale's midfield.

Why did we receive £2,125 for being the highest goalscorers away from home then?

He certainly did Delgado never had a bad game against the vale when he played for chester when he signed for the vale he makes duffy look like another Beckanbauer.

 

Bob Delgardo was immense for Chester, for Vale, he was well not very good to say the least. We always used to wonder whether we signed an identical twin.

No idea unless our 5-1 win against Crewe was the biggest away win? In Div 4 we scored 28 away from home and Grimsby got 31. There were 11 other teams in the other divisions who got more that us.

That win at Crewe must be the reason then,I got the info from Jeff Kent's book 'The Valiant Years'.
