I was probably infected with the same euphoria then as some of the happy clappers are now! I can only say that I never lost my temper with the team once then , recently it has been happening far too often. There are far too many complainants on here for it to be mere coincidence.

Crap though he was I would far more like to see Big Bernie than some of the pathetic excuses nowadays, and didn't Beamish play in those days too.

Yes,those were the days,3,287 average home attendance's,twelve home games without a win and £40,000 wasted on Peter Farrell and you never lost your temper. Is it something to do with your age?

I take with a pinch of salt any sentence that starts with "Surely [smurthwaite] won't have been daft enough to...". No disrespect intended BLVF.

In terms of this season, I think I have enjoyed more home games than any season since Brian Horton left.

And me,a win's a win and another 3 points.

Chester City lost by a goal at home to Tranmere recently. Tranmere have crash dived from top of League 1 to struggling to reach the playoffs in the Conference in 3 seasons. Chester had to start again at the bottom of the pyramid. Of course Chester moved from Sealand Road to the back of the retail / industrial estate where they now are. The ground is ok, for their level of support, but bounds them to Conference / League 2 level in terms of facilities and particularly commercial income.

However, they got to this situation - along the road - via lunatic American ownership. At one point the American owner / chairman put himself in charge of the team and its coaching. He introduced American football type sub teams each having a captain etc. Then of course headed for the sunset leaving lots of creditors when the walls finally fell in.

I struggling to think of a single successful American ownership arrangement in English football. I guess Aston Villa can claim they were for a while and maybe Liverpool at least declined gradually when their Champions League team broke up. I guess the new American owners are not doing too badly. Maybe I am overestimating other people's success. Nonetheless, I am not happy about American involvement here if it is still on, and I will need to see a credible takeover, business plan and lots of evidence of integrity to be convinced.

Arsenal are part American owned and Manure are completely American owned and they haven't done too badly.

Ah, but Bernie Sanders business group has a percentage of the part ownership of Arsenal, so that is probably why they are run better. I'm not sure that most Man U fans would agree that they are 'not doing too badly' right now though. :shifty:

But the owners will be happy if they are still making money.

Five Premier League titles and a Champions League under the Glazers kept them pretty happy though. Also, the value of the club has rocketed since they took over.

Late 70's, 4-0 defeats at Darlo was the worst time. Other than the weather this season, at home anyway , has been very good. If O'Connor hadn't been injured we would have won more

What a season that was, Cav! But not as bad as the season after when we finished out of the re-election places on goal difference thanks to Hereford's incompetance at Rochdale.

Yesterdays trophies are yesterdays news.....and though I like United more than City, they are not even the biggest club in Greater Manchester any more, let alone anywhere else. Still, if money is all that counts......

I have to add that they were already a title-winning top European club when the Glazers took over, so they have actually gone down in status. Time will tell if this is temporary, we all have diferent views on it, but I really wouldn't be surprised if United became the 'new Liverpool' and didn't win the title again in 20 years, still having big support but nowhere near their old dominance.
