Pompey have signed Gary Roberts from Chesterfield what a signing that is, always thought he looked Championship now he's in League 2

 

Yes, followed his old gaffer down there. they may be Division2 at present but they have potential to come good soon. Roberts far too good for that Division.

They're going for it though aren't they- they took Chesterfield's manager too. Why does that sound familiar...

Wonder whether he's on league 2 wages? Is somebody now bank-rolling Pompey? Would have thought they'd learn from earlier mistakes in over-stretching their resources--look where it got them!!

It's fans-owned, I believe. But I think the crucial thing is that they have managed to wipe out their previous debts. So, as Bycarsbill says - with 15,000 season ticket sales then you'll have a good budget.

Smurf has said possibly two loans from Palace and Keshi Anderson is a good shout.

Now Smurf has also said the club will sign a development striker to replace Pope and with Brown (39) set to focus on coaching and Lines probably going then the club need to sign a midfielder.

So by the looks of it Page is close to signing a striker and midfielder with the two Palace lads to follow....probably just a midfielder short still

but then again perhaps Page will take O'Sullivan on loan.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but with the club looking to mix experience with potential, I wondered if Paul Bodin's connections with the Southampton Academy (he coached there until fairly recently) will come into play.

 

For instance, if we are looking for a young potential striker (to perhaps add alongside a couple of more experienced ones) I wonder if we may be interested in Jake Sinclair? Bodin would know him, I would presume.

 

He's a striker and just been released by Southampton. According to the various press reports about his career he is very quick and pacy. He spent a loan spell with Hibs last season before being released.

 

He's the brother of Scott Sinclair (now at Villa so not based a million miles away - which may be a favourable factor) and is 20 years old.

....the real questions are... which position is he best in and will he be good enough to hold down a first team place in that position?

We've had plenty of players in the past (and still have a few!) who can play in various positions/all across the back four/anywhere on the left side etc who are not actually good enough in any position!

Unfortunately, that is what you often get when you sign young, undeveloped talent... but if that's the way forward for us, then so be it.
