  1. JRC thankyou and bless you.....in football terms and speak....versatile players are a god send....in the modern game post "Total Football" any footballer should be able to do and understand the job that the worker next to them endeavor to achieve but also understand a simple system and change tack as the game changes....Askey has tended to sign players with technical ability but also players who are mobile and hungry. At the end of the day in terms of the press and transition players need to show energy and be organised but also technical ability on the ball....there is a clear plan and the players to do it .....this is a good manager and many players that fans seemingly attack are good technically and mobile....the point being that it is a very well thought out squad for the money and in terms of building for the future for the first time in ages clever signings not just in terms of experience but young hungry players of good pedegree and more importantly hunger and the new epoch feeling around the club all bodes well......as they said about Askey it is not about money give him time.....the turn around from mayhem to method is remarkable. Which is very good for a drunk post in the small hours but love football love community love people always absolutely and without any doubt ever about the truth of the people and their right to justice and democracy....peace out. Signed out Burslem Academicals spelling check impaired fcukd.thankyou. .
  2. Shaun Brisley has played in the Championship and is a vastly experienced centre back six foot two still 29 and has to be considered as an upgrade on Rawlinson....needed another centre back and experience with a young back four so box ticked.
  3. tisdeano "versatility is the way" Worral has played very well in a midfield three as well as a wide forward and there are a number of Askey signings who can play multiple positions..... Evans RB/LB/DM Kennedy CB/RB Crookes LB/CB Taylor MF/LB Lloyd MF/LB/LW Worrall MF/RW Amoo LW/RW Montano LW/LB Bennett CF/LW Archer CF/RW Always thought it was the sign of a good footballer or football intelligence the ability to play in more than one position and cope with changes of system or formation.
  4. SFBT "Looking like a squad" which is really the point that stands out it is almost as if the managers knows what he is doing instead of a random collection of 36 players many signed by Smurf it is a small first team squad where all can get games and training and a spirit of togetherness goes a long way as does being fit and organised in a high pressing 4/3/3....from mayhem to method thankyou Mr Askey and our new owners.
  5. So if all these signings come off and this allows Cambell-Gordon to go out on loan to get games like the other two first year professional lads...not to forget Trickett-Smith and Hurst are out on loan till January.....then it looks like a squad of 24 players. GK Brown/Maddison LB Gibbons/Evans CB Legge/Smith/Kennedy/Brisley LB Crookes/Taylor MF Oyeleke/Joyce/Conlon/Lloyd/Burgess/Patching WF Worral/Amoo/Montano/Browne ST Pope/Cullen/Bennett/Archer
  6. Brisley as experienced cover at centre back....has played a lot of games and has Championship experience and still 29.So it is Legge/Smith/Kennedy/Brisley which is a very decent set of centre backs for this level. The Forest lad on loan is a highly rated midfielder who can also play left back so perhaps Cambell-Gordon can go out on loan. Archer is 6 foot 3 and very quick and plays down the centre or wide has goals in his game and had a lot of clubs after him when Bury payed a fee. So the centre back we needed and a step up from Rawlinson...a defensive midfielder who can play left back which probably means Cambell-Gordon can go out on loan and get games.......and Askey wanted a quick striker who can run in behind and Archer on a free is perhaps a gift horse and good business. So two permanent signings in the two positions Askey was after an experienced upgrade and a quick gift horse plus a loan to cover left back/defensive midfield....still could be interest in Will Patching as well.....all in all if the signings all come off a good close of business Mr Askey.
  7. Worrall has been excellent playing in a midfield three in the absence of Manny and is the one most likely to break forward and press with Joyce and Conlon doing the "dirty work".......presumably Patching has done a full pre-season at County and is not far off match fitness but isn't Burgess also an option on the right of the midfield three.....anyway along with Lloyd it is good to have options and cover in midfield but the real urgent concern remains the need to sign a centre back. Anyway could be an interesting potential signing Patching not to forget Trickett-Smith and Hurst out on loan till January it does seem that with a three year contract Askey is looking to build for the future.
  8. robf Interesting that within the last hour David Kevan has mentioned Patching as a trialist (still at the club) and described the lad as a creative attacking midfielder seemingly a bit of a playmaker but also a midfielder who likes to break forward and join the strikers. So could Patching aged 20 six foot offer something box-to-box maybe not as yet a regular starter but perhaps an option off the bench. Think that with Pope/Bennett/Cullen as strikers and Amoo/Worrall/Montano/Browne as wingers plus Whitfield while still at the club then that is plenty of options for the front three and the real concern that needs sorting is a centre back before anything else.
  9. 4/3/3 First Team Brown Gibbons-Legge-Smith-Crookes Worrall-Oyeleke-Conlon Cullen-Pope-Amoo 4/3/3 Reserves Madison Evans-Rawlinson-Kennedy-Cambell-Gordon Burgess-Joyce-Lloyd Browne-Bennett-Montano Out on Loan;Trickett-Smith-Hurst
  10. The team above looks likely only 4/3/3 with Conlon/Oyeleke/Worral midfield and Amoo/Pope/Cullen the front three.
  11. Looking at it it would seem that Rhys Browne is ever likely the Whitfield replacement.
  12. darren1810 why do you think Manchester United tart themselves around Perth Australia playing friendly games etc,etc if not for the money same with games in Japan or China or USA against no mark teams....there is money to be made in pre-season.
  13. Summary;Whitfield is an enigma and it seems that Askey doesn't have time for an enigma and has moved on.
  14. So kinda the pure ideal of 22 players two for each position.....first team/second team. .........................................................................Brown............................................................ Gibbons...........................................Legge..........................Smith.............................Crookes ...................................Worrall............................Oyeleke.....................Conlon......................... ..............Amoo......................................................Pope.......................................Bennett........ ..........................................................................Madison........................................................... Evans............................................Rawlinson.........................Kennedy.............................Lloyd .....................................Burgess..........................Joyce......................Trickett-Smith.................. ........................Browne......................................Cullen......................................Montano............. Plus Cambell-Gordon/Berks/Green-Birch
  15. Interesting interview with Askey upon return from Scotland.....spoke of the need for a keeper plus one more signing which probably means Madison and Browne....and a squad of 22 senior first team players....also spoke of Ryan Lloyd in terms of a left back role....so a quick check gives us something like the following. GK Brown/Madison RB Gibbons/Evans CB Legge/Smith/Kennedy/Rawlinson LB Crookes/Lloyd MF Oyeleke/Joyce/Conlon/Burgess/Trickett-Smith WF Worrall/Amoo/Montano/Browne CF Pope/Cullen/Bennett So bingo that's 22 senior first team players and from which it could be surmised that Whitfield is nolonger considered in the first team squad and there was some talk on here not Askey about signing Hurst but Hurst staying on loan at Bradford Park Avenue. Askey did say that if anyone got a significant injury before the loan window closed they would get a loan player in. So given everyone expects Madison and Browne to get contracts then the above is what we go with.
