  1. All in all a decent work out and performance by the reserves against a top league one outfit at their yard....10 changes and the only continuity Mills the second choice right back. Visser was again very good and should heaven forbid Brown miss a run of games with some niggle no qualms about Visser playing but also both Brisley and especially Crooke who could go on to form a long term partnership with Smith were again excellent. Whitehead got a goal plus more game time and is usefull back up in midfield while both Tricky-Smith and Hurst had good performances but mostly Oyeleke and Mon
  2. Just looking at that first team with the diamond of Joyce infront of the legge and Smith partnership and Brown in goals then the rotation of Cullen and Robinson upfront and thinking that right triangle of Gibbons/Oyeleke/McKirdy and that left triangle of Montano/Conlon/Worrall which is the stronger side? That nominal second eleven with a back four of Mills/Brisley/Crooke/Fitzpatrick and Viser in goals but also a midfield of Burgess/Whitehead/Trickett-Smith but also with the pace of Hurst/Rodney/Amoo and Pope to come on is itself a strong side.
  3. .............................................................................Brown............................................................................ Gibbons...................................Legge............................................Smith.......................................Montano ......................................Oyeleke...........................Joyce................................Conlon................................... .........................McKirdy......................................Cullen/Robinson..............................Worrall..........
  4. So given the McKirdy signing and with a fit Oyeleke how does this look for our strongest starting eleven..... .............................................................................Brown............................................................................ Gibbons...................................Legge............................................Smith.......................................Montano ......................................Oyeleke...........................Joyce................................Conlon................................... .................
  5. Phil B of Bowers Towers any idea when the signing might get announced to the Vale Nation....
  6. Vale1995 you are Harry McKirdy 22 and I claim my £5.
  7. mmmmm....so not McKirdy(23) or Thomas(25) but seemingly some development lad.....then again Rodney and Hurst look good prospects but with Monatano at left back and Amoo injured that only leaves Worrall with experience so thought the signing would be with a view to go straight into the first team as required.
  8. Thinking about the Askey 4/3/3 then while the Brown...Smith/Legge....Joyce....is the foundation and Cullen and Robinson will rotate as striker with Pope now a bit part player the key feature is the left and right triangles.....last season Monty/Conlon/Worrall on the left and Gibbons/Burgess/Amoo on the right.....now we have Mills and Fitzpatrick as full back options and in midfield Oyeleke and Whitehead with say new signing probably Thomas and Rodney who will become a fans favourite and can move central permanent next season when Pope has retired.....it looks such a strong and well balanced sq
  9. Brown Mills/Legge/Smith/Fitzpatrick Burgess/Joyce/Conlon Worrall/Conlon/Rodney Visser/Brisley/Crooke/Whitehead/Oyeleke/Robinson/Montano So disregarding the nine changes last game the same team as the season opener only with Manny and Monty on the bench in place of Tricky-Smith and Hurst......basically rotate Cullen and Robinson with say Cullen starting at home change on the hour and Robinson starting away maybe and we'll see Pope in October.....to think that matchday squad has Gibbons/Amoo/Pope and maybe Thomas to add in and there are going to be some basically first t
  10. So for those "in the know" McKirdy or "Mystery Winger" that is the question ?
  11. So Askey said McKirdy would still be training with us this week and there were a couple of other wingers on the radar also and low and behold another winger in training today....Askey also said he didn't want to waste players time and that a decision would be made this week....so is it between McKirdy and the mystery winger for the final contract of the summer.....must be of a fair decent standard to compete with McKirdy for the job.
  12. Question is if say Askey signed another left back and pushed Montano up to replace Browne then we only have three wingers so if one gets injured....also would Montano start ahead of Amoo with Worral playing on the right....as ever it's Askey's call but with Fitzpatrick and Montano plus Crooke (and Mills) all being able to play left back why sign another and with one injury have no wing cover on the bench....gotta be another specialist winger essentially.
  13. Hopefully a solid two weeks of running and boot camp will see Robinson much fitter and Cullen will be back in training next week and without changing the whole team at half time obviously the likes of Browne and Hurst didn't get a run out....interesting to see Trickett-Smith get game time again and did alright and looks like being part of the squad this season when needed. This season is truncated and there is going to be a lot of midweek games and it really is going to be based on squad strength rather than first 11 and thinking Askey has called it right especially with other teams playe
  14. Interesting point about the front three.....the back four and midfield from last season pretty much picks itself.....but both Mills and Fitzy are good full back cover and Brisley and Crooke good cover at centre back.....then in midfield certainly a fit Oyeleke and new signing Whitehead will push for games.....however upfront ignoring the suspended Pope there seems to be a good mix between the intelligent footballer front three as it were with Worrall/Cullen/Browne and the raw pace of the quicks Amoo/Robinson/Rodney...it is a good pick'n'mix set of forwards and at all times as long as there is
  15. Even with Manny injured and discounting Hurst (same age as Taylor and Burgess last season) and Trickett-Smith and considering a first choice midfield that finished strongly last season of Burgess/Joyce/Conlon then a potential back up spare midfield three of Whitehead/Mills/Worral isn't too shabby perhaps.....that would still leave say Amoo/Cullen/Robinson as a front three with a spare set of Browne/Pope/Rodney.......there seems to be a handfull of players who can cover different roles well and all in all a very balanced squad with competition for shirts and cover for every position.....25 man
