I think we can be fairly confident that any marquee signings will be a surprise when revealed, since if they become public we could be outbid, I don't think MA will pay over the odds.

Wellens is the one I want to capture! Being Leicestershire based I recall a lot of Leicester fans drooling over him a year or so ago (although they tend to drool over any of their players like they are Zidane!).

 

He got injured and now he is 'crap' etc but at our level, get him fit he would be a player that can carve teams open with his passing ability. Wellens and Birchall/Loft in the middle would be pretty solid for a League One side and if we could add another quality winger to play opposite Jeno we would have a very tasty looking midfield to add to our already decent strike force.

 

Just the defence to sort then, although im sure Duffy Yates and Jones would be the full back positions sorted.

 

If I was Micky and we could get them I would target:

 

Maghoma

Wellens

Young Prem center half loanee (maybe look at Norwich who won the FA Youth Cup and see what they have)

Experienced center half

Penn

 

We wouldnt be far off a good side with them.

I agree valefan16, I'd be more confident about us having a decent season if we signed a player of Wellens' calibre(obviously with a few others too) but he is a player who can make things tick in League One.

 

Nice comment from Micky re Artell! Although tbh I couldn't blame any of the players that left us last summer at the time, Vale couldn't have been the best of clubs to be at before the season just gone and being in admin at the time I wouldn't blame anyone wanting security over a pay packet at the end of each month in any walk of life. Although footballers do tend to get a better wage than a lot of jobs even at League Two level. Hindsight is perhaps a good word for the likes of Richards', Rigg, Artell and maybe Griffith(altho he may yet get a 2nd go with us?), but that's football they may have a bit more money but have they furthered their careers!?
