Chelsea v Port Vale (FAC) - Match Thread

See you had a go slagging me off but I love far away, too. Yet I got a ticket and I went today.

I'm also a realist.

In the end you could have got a ticket if you had been to 1 home, or away game, this season or last, I think.  Don't know if there was any left after that tbh. People didn't go for a variety of reasons no doubt, but to be fair if any fan wanted a ticket I think they could have got one, not attending was their choice

This will sound harsh but poor today, we basically looked a non league side for the majority of the game. 11 men v 11 boys, the lack of physicality was embarrassing for a professional football club.

I know it's Chelsea & I completely understand the difference in ability & quality, but we didn't do anywhere near enough to do ourselves justice. Really poor & they have really let the fans down again today.

Season over. Get the academy kids in for a run & start afresh in the summer.

I like this mate, totally agree.

On the way back now feeling very dejected.  Think we all need something now to give us some hope.

Totally separately and probably my own selfish take on things, but I really cant stand the modern way of playing.  You cant tackle anymore so, to adegree, we had to just watch them play today.

The game as a spectacle is genuinely dying a sorry death

We should of been putting the boot in and coming away with 8 or 9 yellows and roughing em up a bit to get them out their stride in my opinion and playing long balls up front instead of what we did do.

Other than that no complaints!

This was the game I was expecting , it was all too pedestrian. I don't think our current players have the will and desire to perform such spectacles. Move them on

I know we were playing against a quality side with some amazing players, but there are still some basic things we could have done better. To leave ourselves so open from our kick off was crazy, everyone chasing the ball, it breaks down, we leave ourselves short as they break down our left and force a corner that they score from. We’ve got a keeper flapping for at least 2 goals. Gordon not strong enough on the second, should never have been out muscled there. Time and again they were able to pick a pass out to a forward in front of our back 5, why we had no centre midfielder sitting a bit deeper to screen there I don’t know. We weren’t nasty enough, I’m sure at one point Gabriel was patting their players arse like he was mates. Magloire shouldn’t be near the first team.

Maybe that’s all a bit harsh given the opposition, but I’ve said it for months, we have no characters in this team. No balls. The heart has been ripped out and replaced with nice looking footballers playing at looking like modern day footballers with the bling and tattoos, instead of being willing to do the other side of the game and dig deep. I can’t wait to see this squad ripped apart and rebuilt.

Totally agree - no nastiness, no aggression, no willingness to put bodies on the line or stick with runner. As I said before, limp.

When all is said and done - it’s 11 men vs 11 men. You have to win your individual battles by whatever means first & foremost.

More worryingly was the complete lack of any sort of game plan from what I could see. I could understand if the idea was to go long, but get someone running the channels and have an idea where the ball is going to land from defensive clearances. There were a couple of times Sherif was 20-30 yards away from where the ball was landing….and guess what, the pressure then comes back on us.

Thought Ojo and Gabriel the only ones to come out of that with any credit at all. I like Gordon but he’ll be having nightmares around that game. We should have taken a million off QPR for Rhys - he’s not the answer if midfield, too slow and not fit enough, just wants to buy freekicks all the time which gets a bit tedious. I’d forgotten Gray was on, total waste of a signing as was Hernandez. Tyler is, I’m afraid, is massive downgrade on Debrah.

We’re virtually starting from scratch but having started to warm to Brady doubts are again starting to creep in (and not I would say because of today) but you’ve got to admin that his signings so far have been poor (and yes, I know, no one wants to join a bottom L1 side in January, but he did swap Debrah for Tyler remember!)

Im glad its over. After what that lot have done in the league i can now fully get in to them. Dicks.

Unfortunately we needed a team that would put everything on the line. Our promotion team of 4 years ago probably didn't have the quality of this one but it had way more heart and fight with players like Worrall, Gibbons, Smith, Pett, Conlon etc. I'm certain they would have put up a better fight today. We'd likely get beat 99 times out of 100 but the lack of aggression was particularly noticeable.

That was embarrassing. Some might disagree and think I should "get behind the lads" but that was dreadful.

We didn't want to compete. We didn't want to upset anyone. We just wanted their shirts.

I never expe⁰cted to win but come on.

Spot on I feared the worst as soon as I saw whatever message was sewn onto the players shirts. Said everything to me. Never believed we could win.
