Chelsea v Port Vale (FAC) - Match Thread

I was in block 4 15/148 and surrounded by drunks, during the game I could hear 'Chelsea rent boy' being shouted numerous times, a lady near me was heard complaining about racist remarks and when Chelsea scored their third a fist fight ensued between Vale fans with no security in sight. All this happened right by me and as I went to get help more fans moved in to fight. Police were only seen near the exit to block 4 and were very slow to react. I'd had enough and left the ground at half time, never been so embarrassed to be a Vale fan. Managed to get an earlier than planned National Express coach home, so for me it was a day of six hours coach travel for 40 minutes of football.

Sounds like rotten luck to be stuck there man, with a late kick off there was always going to be hammered <ovf censored> heads about, luckily we were in an area with some decent people (including Mark Chamberlain) but still saw a few scuffles nearby. It happened to us at Bolton a couple of years ago, a large group of racist, homophobic, sexist arse holes looking to fight everyone and themselves. Sorry you had to go through it.

In the services on the way down we stopped at Oxford. There were only a few Vale fans at the time and we were wearing our shirts proudly. Then we heard a shout and the everyone in the building stopped to look at a woman running through the services, repeatedly shouting loudly 'get out of my way, I need a fu***** pi**! I've been waiting fu***** ages! She was wearing a Vale shirt as she ran through. I quietly pulled my jacket on.

Brady can go for me .

So the same set up game after game

We lost 4-0 too Wycombe with the same set up and he does it again .

No on target goal attempts .

He seriously is absolutely a talk the talk manager but has delivered in his tenure four of the worst performances in Vales History Exeter /Bradford /Wycombe and Chelsea all games where attacking intent is zero and has no idea how too make Vale any kind of threat on oppositions goal

Its obvious hes upset Henegan /Byers /Stockley /Croasdale and others who he as has too play but quite clearly are not .

That was not a team who played for the manager yesterday they downed tools on him for sure fair enough but wheres your pride in playing for the support ...

Port Vale have become weak and theres a leadership problem throughout .

CS dancing really .

Garrity saying we were brilliant REALLY

No we werent .

We were abject

Couldnt even muster the enthusiasm put one good move together ,we cheered when G Hall had a shot deflected out for a corner ,he plays Ojo Walters /Garrity not one drives through the field ,although Walters did first half once wow dont do it too many times ,he could try Hernandez G Hall and Gabriel in there, he is boring ,one dimensional no imagination sort hats off too them buying a season ticket after this campaign i wont be returning a total embarassment and my love has died for live football

Hang your heads in shame players

Brady can go for me he is not upto the job.

Remember that we beat Maldon and Tiptree 5-1 at home and played them off the park. The gulf in skill and funding between them and us is nothing like the gulf between us and Chelsea. I guess they knew they had to get an early goal or their fans would have been giving them grief.  This is the reality of lower league football.

Yep I remember it well RZ.... infact Maldons goal was probably the best move of the match 😬🤣

Didn’t start off too well for me, 6000 vale fans and the bloody drug sniffer dog has to pick me out, got pulled out of the queue had to empty every thing onto a table then searched. Obviously didn’t find anything.

Why? Where did you hide your stash?

On reflection yesterday, I thought we played as well as we have in recent games, OK but no way near good enough, get the odd point and occasional win in league one and get stuffed by a premiership team. The fact we didn’t raise our game for a big game like this just proves we are naff, no way near good enough and needs massive changes at the end of the season. I thought Gabriel had a good game but one player out of 16 to have a good game in such a high profile game is shocking. There was no fight, Chelsea had it so easy, the suns were shocking, it was like Brady just wanted to give the bench some minutes to remember, it was all just a jolly day out, problem is that’s how it’s been all season.

Ok so here's my take on things... we're a very poor football team bottom of division one by a long way, we've had a good run in the cup only because we've played all our games on a  pudding of a  pitch Vale park, anyone who thought they'd get anything from Chelsea are deluded,I said to my neighbour if we lose by four or less we've done well,I didn't want an Exeter at man city score but we tried our best to go that way, relegation is definitely happening we've known for months but we have all tried to think by some miracle it's not going to happen, the team needs a complete overhaul for next season and believe me it's not going to be as easy as people think, whatever happens I'll always be VALE through thick and mostly thin, the players had their big day out and fluffed there lines it's what it is.most won't be playing for us next season thank god but Brady has a big rebuild on his hands,it's going to be a hard watch again as always,oh well cheer up you miserable sods and lets look forward to... Grimsby... Crawley...and Walsall again, onwards and upwards as they say... UTV VTID 😁👍

Well said Splodger I was at the cricket yesterday at Derby in the wind and got home just after goal 2, as I said earlier we got spanked by a villa side 6-0 and it should have been more, and we had a far better side then.

We survived and we will this time, and will go forward with a lot of new players with no Moore influence on them.

I just the majority remember having a good day out as the fans sounded amazing on the telly, particularly the rendition of wonder of you.

I enjoyed the day out but left angry at the football I had seen. I did not go expecting us to win, we are bottom of league 1 for a reason.

The first three Chelsea goals were not a result of high quality play but bloody awful defending. For the third there guy ran at us initially with two Vale players either side of him apparently unable to tackle. Even at Vale's level basic defending is expected of professional footballers.

Then why oh why, when their right winger was tearing us apart, was Brady's tactics to deal with him was to leave him completely unmarked for the whole game. I get that due to the opposition he wanted three in the middle of defence, but that doesn't mean you can't stick a full back on their biggest danger. The guy had a total free run at us all match. Yes we would still have lost the match but it would not have been by that embarrassing score line. The players put the effort in but appeared to be scared of putting a tackle in. It was the first time in ages I have seen us come across a team that were physically far smaller than us. Yet at times we got bullied off the ball. There was one occasion when Sherif got pushed off the ball by a guy half his size.

At Wycombe we got beat by a side that was a better team, not better individuals. They always knew where their colleagues were and where they were going to go. Whereas we were constantly trying to do things off the hoof. I individually some players played quite well in that match but we had absolutely no cohesion or team work. It was the same yesterday.

Also if Stockley and Gray were not up to a full 90 minutes then why not play them 45 minutes each. Anything would have been better than Sherif. He is not a professional footballer. He did not give Waine anything to run on to all match. If you didn't want to risk Stockley for a few minutes why take him. Or we could have had Hall on up front and played deep and just given Waine and Hall balls to chase and run on to. But no even with the subs he kept the same shape. The shape of a team that was getting thrashed.

The score line yesterday was all on Brady and his let's leave there most dangerous player totally unmarked all match tactics.

I quite liked "You're going to Wembley, we're going to York"

Andre Grays tenure here has been embarrassing.

I don’t want him anywhere near the club as of tomorrow.

It’s clear no one did any scouting or basic due diligence on his signing. We got rid of our two best attacking options, and brought in gray because the recruitment team recognised his name, and sheriff because we were offered a bogof deal by Everton.
