Chelsea v Port Vale (FAC) - Match Thread

Sounds like rotten luck to be stuck there man, with a late kick off there was always going to be hammered <ovf censored> heads about, luckily we were in an area with some decent people (including Mark Chamberlain) but still saw a few scuffles nearby. It happened to us at Bolton a couple of years ago, a large group of racist, homophobic, sexist arse holes looking to fight everyone and themselves. Sorry you had to go through it.

In the services on the way down we stopped at Oxford. There were only a few Vale fans at the time and we were wearing our shirts proudly. Then we heard a shout and the everyone in the building stopped to look at a woman running through the services, repeatedly shouting loudly 'get out of my way, I need a fu***** pi**! I've been waiting fu***** ages! She was wearing a Vale shirt as she ran through. I quietly pulled my jacket on.

Not someone who you’d take home to meet your mum,DBM?😂

Not read through all this thread yet but what i will say is i really enjoyed the occasion, such a great atmosphere in the away end and it's a day me and my lad wont forget.

I said to him yesterday to savour it,he is 18 and has now seen his team in an FA Cup quarter final... I am 54 and it's taken 54 years for me to see it,so it doesn't come around often.

Fantastic support as always, our club is special and certainly despite the bickering that can happen on here it's a club the majority of us truly love

I enjoyed the day out but left angry at the football I had seen. I did not go expecting us to win, we are bottom of league 1 for a reason.

The first three Chelsea goals were not a result of high quality play but bloody awful defending. For the third there guy ran at us initially with two Vale players either side of him apparently unable to tackle. Even at Vale's level basic defending is expected of professional footballers.

Then why oh why, when their right winger was tearing us apart, was Brady's tactics to deal with him was to leave him completely unmarked for the whole game. I get that due to the opposition he wanted three in the middle of defence, but that doesn't mean you can't stick a full back on their biggest danger. The guy had a total free run at us all match. Yes we would still have lost the match but it would not have been by that embarrassing score line. The players put the effort in but appeared to be scared of putting a tackle in. It was the first time in ages I have seen us come across a team that were physically far smaller than us. Yet at times we got bullied off the ball. There was one occasion when Sherif got pushed off the ball by a guy half his size.

At Wycombe we got beat by a side that was a better team, not better individuals. They always knew where their colleagues were and where they were going to go. Whereas we were constantly trying to do things off the hoof. I individually some players played quite well in that match but we had absolutely no cohesion or team work. It was the same yesterday.

Also if Stockley and Gray were not up to a full 90 minutes then why not play them 45 minutes each. Anything would have been better than Sherif. He is not a professional footballer. He did not give Waine anything to run on to all match. If you didn't want to risk Stockley for a few minutes why take him. Or we could have had Hall on up front and played deep and just given Waine and Hall balls to chase and run on to. But no even with the subs he kept the same shape. The shape of a team that was getting thrashed.

The score line yesterday was all on Brady and his let's leave there most dangerous player totally unmarked all match tactics.

Spotted that myself. Gordon was left between a rock and a hard place. If he had gone tighter a huge channel would be left behind him for them to swarm into. Needed to double up as we do with Headley. Wain seemed to have that responsibility, but cannot do it and shouldn’t be asked to do it.

Needed five at the back yesterday, but when Hennigan is missing don’t have the players to do it. Even then we would still have lost, but by less goals.

Now onto the game

Firstly i find it so strange that a group of lads pay all that money just to stare and trade insults with the Chelsea fans ALL game,so much so that one of the group rarely even looked at the pitch.

The team has done really well to get to where we were yesterday but i just wished we had put the same battling performance we did at Man City and the same passion 6,000 fans showed, some players can hold their heads up but others showed what we really lack in the team,we have no dominant CB like Heneghan/Legge etc and that has GOT to be addressed in the summer plus you cant give players like Neto and the other wide player the space we did but like i said we move on and have a mass clear out

Onwards and Upwards hopefully

Look at the bright side, guys. Liverpool lost to man city by 4-0. Which means that we are closer to Liverpool performance than them are too city.

Day was superb ,fans were superb .

Players were woeful m8 absolutely beaten before a ball kicked

Southampton played with heart ,speed ,want ,how did we play with nothing m8 sherif up front running about on own couldnt do a thing apart from run ,couldnt hold it up ,we did nothing m8

To be fair, Southampton were in the Prem last year and may well return. They were playing a much weakened Arse side whereas Rosenior cheated by picking all his best players. Doesn’t he know big sides aren’t meant to do that against lower league teams in the Cup?

Spotted that myself. Gordon was left between a rock and a hard place. If he had gone tighter a huge channel would be left behind him for them to swarm into. Needed to double up as we do with Headley. Wain seemed to have that responsibility, but cannot do it and shouldn’t be asked to do it.

We had Hall, Humphries and John in the middle at the back. And Gabriel at right wing back. We were playing 5 at the back. We didn't need to double up on that player we just needed one player on him. What was Gordon's role yesterday, he was playing a wing back role too far upfield. That is down to manager instructions. He never went near that winger

Just got back. Chelsea are a really good team. Didn't need to get out of first gear after the first goal. I didn't expect much from Vale, and they gave the performance I expected. No quality whatsoever at all.

Southampton were also in the Premier League last season…

In fairness we have to put some context of what we are up against.

Three of the Goal Scorers play for Brazil, One the Netherlands, One Argentina, one was forced by an England International.

There’s a lot to be embarrassed about this season but far worse than yesterday’s. It wasn’t like Barnsley for instance.

We bemoan the late goal but we threw on a lad who started the season at Workington, they were throwing on an Argentinian International.

Yes 7 was disappointing but a great run and day out. Thankfully in four weeks time we won’t have to see some of the players again in our jersey and have three months off from the strain of it and can hopefully start to rebuild.

That ref was a heartless bastard giving that penalty.

Didn't go Brian. My granddaughter has been in hospital all week, having had major surgery, but she's home now after being in there for 7 days. She's sitting here in her little Vale shirt, recovering. Are you there? No, didn't think so 👍

Hope she is ok and getting there now mate
