Chelsea v Port Vale (FAC) - Match Thread

Featured Replies

Of course we got there by somewhat less edifying means than '54 but the game was a historic occasion and against such elite opposition, the only requirement is to give a good account of yourselves. Drunk tadgerheads can always completely spoil that if you're near them and I'm sympathetic and sad for those who were but think the majority of fans did give a good account of themselves. On the pitch, no matter what way you look at it, we failed to give a good account of ourselves. A Man City 4-1 with a good goal would have been par, yesterday was a well deserved humiliation.

Our momentum is so far in the wrong direction, I fear for next season.

Not sure we get Sherif and Campbell on loan if we didn’t have the pre season friendly with Everton developing those club contacts. Ward, Gray and Hernandez coming in is the equivalent of sorting players by reputation in Football Manager, free agent and ‘Interested’ in moving and picking up those top of the pile late on in the window. You can probably point to us signing Devante Cole being related to Moore being at the club as well.

Just think when you boil down our recruitment the things that stand out are Darnbrough and laziness. We’d done better in recent years in the windows but that was before Darnbrough was working with us.

Fans were unbelievable.

The club is rotten.

What was written on the front of the  Vale shirts worn yesterday?

(3 lines of text seemed a lot for "FA Cup 6th round v Chelsea"or sonething similar.)

Brady has openly said Gray and Hernandez were all we could get because of our and their situations. I've not taken to Gray at all, he definitely looks like he thinks he's got nothing to prove and that is very arrogant.

As I've stated many times, the club is absolutely soft from top to bottom and while we are we'll continue to have the pxss taken by journeymen like him.

In fairness we have to put some context of what we are up against.

Three of the Goal Scorers play for Brazil, One the Netherlands, One Argentina, one was forced by an England International.

There’s a lot to be embarrassed about this season but far worse than yesterday’s. It wasn’t like Barnsley for instance.

We bemoan the late goal but we threw on a lad who started the season at Workington, they were throwing on an Argentinian International.

Yes 7 was disappointing but a great run and day out. Thankfully in four weeks time we won’t have to see some of the players again in our jersey and have three months off from the strain of it and can hopefully start to rebuild.

Well said. Balance. Thought through.

Some of the other posts on here are a joke.

I have slept on it before commenting.
A long day for most, I stayed with friends in Stevenage which made it easier.
Fans in the main were brilliant but as feared there were groups of drunks falling out with Chelsea fans and each other, not a good look.
The team, well abject.
We all knew we would lose but we just stepped off them and seemed to enjoy watching them play.
Not once did we put a hard tackle in.
Now we plan for next season, the issue is we have so many still under contract.
I see calls for a new keeper but we go into next season with 3 keepers already under contract, at least one must be paid up and let go. Not easy with the increasing financial constraints.
I really think next season will be an all or nothing season and could define our short to medium term future.

Assume Amos will be out of contract and Gauci on loan.

Personally I’d give Davies and Marko half the games each now and see what they can offer.

I would have liked us to try to play further up the pitch. To try to force a goal. I felt sorry for Waine stuck out on the side.

However the team picked itself based on the turgid tactics and signings from Darren Bore.

For Tuesday it would be any GK apart from Amos and Gauci

Gabriel Big Ben John Shorrock

Archer Walters Croasdale Hall

Stockley Waine

They can't be any worse
