Match Thread - Port Vale v Blackpool

Featured Replies

There's a real positive with this result today. I'm sure anyone thinking of applying or already applied for the managers post will realise that there's still a team of players within this squad, previously hidden by Moore. Early days but the gap remains in reach even if that sounds optimistic.

Where's owd Phil, aka DD, aka DI, aka VFIA?

Devante Cole is bloody rubbish, I'm telling you! Absolute waste of a shirt...

Win against Barnsley, win in the FA Cup, point against Mansfield, beat Exeter at home and then everything to play for.

First half garbage, same crap same result.

Second half we showed that we do have the players we just need to get the tactics right. Fair enough they were down to 10 men but I think we would still have struggled to win that game if we had stayed with the same formation and personnel we had first half. Nobody else in this squad would have scored that equaliser but Stockley and he has been available for months.

Best thing was seeing the smiles on their faces byers, cole, stockley, curtis, headley beaming from ear to ear come on lets have more of that on sunday.

I don't know what kind of contract G hall has but the new manager should try to get him to commit to a longer one his pace and determination is a game changer

And No this doesn't mean smith should get the job he should have been braver from the start.

I really wouldn't give him much credit for that. We are at home trailing 1 - 0, playing crap, in desperate need of a win and just before half time they get a guy sent off. If he hadn't changed things around at half time, he would have needed lynching. In fact if you don't change things around and put on some forwards in those circumstances, then you are never going to. If there wasn't a sending off I doubt he would have altered the system until the 88th minute like before. The players today showed what they can do when played in their right positions in the right system. Hopefully that win will give them the confidence needed going forward. If he goes back to 3 at the back against Barnsley, my thoughts would be pretty much unprintable

It’s not just a case of putting forwards on though. Moore put on a load of forwards against Wigan when they went to ten men and we looked clueless and disjointed.

If people are going to slag him off for team selection and first half tactics (and we were dreadful), you also have to give credit for where he made a change and it worked.

Looked like a red to me. 5 goals. 3 points. Great day

Ive got mixed feelings tonight absolutely delighted with a comprehensive victory.....BUT I am incandescent with Darren Moore he could have single handedly cost our club a place in the 1st Division with his pathetic attempt at tactics and substitutions, Smith showed we have the players to compete and I am even more annoyed Moore was kept in a job when anyone with a football brain could see he was winging it.

Going back to the last match and all the talk of a free hit. This was his free hit. He's not getting the job so he has nothing to lose by changing it and plenty to lose (reputation etc) by keeping it the same and meekly losing.

Glad he changed it. More aggressive second half with plenty of crosses and forward passes. Including for the first time in ages knocking the ball over or behind their fullbacks/wingbacks to turn them.

Fantastic second half. Doesn’t matter if it’s against 10 men, you’ve got a job to do and they did it.

We changed to a back four and, for some strange reason, we were much better. Same as the last 10 minutes against Bradford, and the four games before Huddersfield.

Should have started that way, but now we need to make sure we do. If we start the next game with a back 3/5 I will be fuming, but fair play for making the changes today.

Buzzing for Hall and Curtis, a few assists and a goal between them. Hall especially made their defence look silly time and time again. He we can train him to cross a ball, he would make a fantastic winger at this level.

A word on Stockley too because last game I said he was poor, which I stand by, but today he was outstanding. The change in tactics probably helped though. Plus he’s getting some consistent game time. I would start him in a 4-2-3-1 over Cole as things stand after today.

Understand the starting 11 'cause Blackpool had got 4 wins in their last 5 games and confidence high, but once Blackpool went down to 10 men the two subs at half time were absolutely correct and the performance and goals showed it.

Not easy to play against 10 men so brill 2nd half performance by Vale.

First half we lacked ideas/creativity, so Rico back and a quality winger on loan in Jan are a minimum .

Bring on Barnsley, 4 losses in their last 6 games so a team not high on confidence and a winnable game. Win the Barnsley match and it's game on.

Memories of conceding 5 goals at VP revived for Barnsley today.

45 minutes against 10 men and you’ve gone all giddy…Enjoy the win🍾

When we signed Hall it was described as an initial 3 year contract. What these things never say quite understandably is if there any option years or various minimum fee release clauses etc.
