Match Thread - Port Vale v Blackpool

Featured Replies

My thoughts on the game echo a lot of what has already been said - we look so much better playing 4-4-2! Hall in particular had their defense terrified. Full credit to Smith for having the bottle to actually implement the changes. Will he revert to Mooreball against Barnsley or be brave and keep the formation and intensity of the second half, we shall see.

Happy New Year indeed though after all the doom and gloom. If we are to go down, at least let's do it fighting.

Do we change were it not for the red ?

At last a smile on faces though.

5 is dreamland.

I think we do not change if no red. In a way, the red card could be the spark we needed. It "forced" Smith to change to an attacking formation. After seeing that, he surely cannot go back to the set-up that has frustrated us all year. The lads that went off for Hall and Curtis are good footballers and in games their attitude and attributes will be required in games. In our situation, front foot football is what we need. Draws are not disasters but we need plenty of 3 point games.

Wingers at Vale Park and goals at Vale Park and a win! Crikey!

That was how Wigan away could have gone if DM hadn't been such a boring, negative, clueless pillock.

I'm actually looking forward to Sunday's game now!

Credit to Jamie Smith, his tactical change at half time when they went to 10 men was good and we took them apart. Shows how much of a clown Moore was when you compare his tactical change at Wigan to today.

Still concerned about first half performance as I thought we were awful. But we’ve made 2 points up on the rest so a good day.

I really wouldn't give him much credit for that. We are at home trailing 1 - 0, playing crap, in desperate need of a win and just before half time they get a guy sent off. If he hadn't changed things around at half time, he would have needed lynching. In fact if you don't change things around and put on some forwards in those circumstances, then you are never going to. If there wasn't a sending off I doubt he would have altered the system until the 88th minute like before. The players today showed what they can do when played in their right positions in the right system. Hopefully that win will give them the confidence needed going forward. If he goes back to 3 at the back against Barnsley, my thoughts would be pretty much unprintable

All depends if erm, he learns from this, in terms of the boyz feeling comfortable playing, that system in the arena.

Just starting to thaw out was taters down there.

Absolutely made up for the lads and Carol etc after what's been a horrible period for them.

Some massive goals for some of our key players. Ronan and Devante will gain huge confidence from their goals.

Small steps and a game at a time, can't get carried away, so lets just enjoy the result and on to the next.

Happy New Year Valiants 🙏

I don't know when I will next get the opportunity, so I am definitely planning on getting carried away this evening.

Well done, the lads. Let’s hope Smith realises he’s stumbled on the formation and selection that truly suits us. Two wingers and two strikers is the way to go.

Just a tad worried that his defensive instincts are so ingrained from his time with Moore that he will bottle it next timevout.

We won’t get out of this playing for Moore-bore draws!

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to come over as a curmudgeon but I  believe that the formation change was pretty much forced on him, 1 - 0 down and them then reduced to 10 me, he absolutely had to do it. I guess we will see on Sunday if he has had an epiphany or his arm twisted up his back. Having said all that moore would have left it until the 85th minute then brought 5 attackers on but take all the midfield off.

Still, no negativity after a win like that.
