Cambridge (A) match thread Sep 23rd

Seeing as I’m local and I hadn’t seen a thread thought I’d have a go at starting one (admin pleas move thus if one has started).

Abbey already sold out for home fans (bar hospitality tickets).  They got beat at Wigan but have had a surprisingly good start, manager recently signed a long term deal too. Saw them against Reading, high press, bodies on the line defending, fast breaks with decent wide men (Brophy reminded me of Gary Ford).  Tight pitch though our ballers should still shine.  The home fans behind the goal never stopped singing throughout the game but they had a drum so hopefully someone puts their foot through it before Saturday.

Hopefully a continuation of our good form after going top on Tuesday night 🤞

Down for the weekend. Staying at a friend's pub in Potton ,Bedfordshire.

Depending on tomorrow a point would be decent.

Planning my first visit there since we were relegated from the second tier in the 90’s. I think we took the lead in that game but Dion Dublin and Steve Claridge ensured we lost 4-1. Hopefully the class of 23 can avoid defeat this time round.

1992, the end of our 3-year stint in Division Two.

this is a tough game, but ironically it's one of the easiest league games for a while now. getting rolled by a team joining Chelly and Carl in L2 next season was a lost opportunity.  We seem to really go downhill when we have a break, so having it rescheduled always had me worried.

Peak John Beck. Cambridge weren’t a pleasant side at that time, full of 6 footers but bizarrely they had a short **** in goal.

I think they read out the wrong scores over the PA system at half time because they thought it would affect us.

I was delighted when they got hammered by Leicester in the play offs a couple of weeks later.

First time going Cambridge. Was looking online and for parking it said either street parking or a park and ride nearby. Can anyone who’s been before give any recommendations please? Much appreciated if so.

There was street parking last season but you best parking 10 to 15 minutes away and walk to the ground.
