Please read DazFred’s post regarding the rumour. He clearly states he heard we can’t PAY  Stevens and Taylor not we can’t PLAY them both. The insinuation of the rumour is that we can’t afford to pay both.

Stupid rumour if you ask me with absolutely no evidence.

I thought his “pay” was a typo because I’d heard this rumour that we can’t play them both. Or are you suggesting they only get paid if they play??

I’m suggesting nothing at all, just trying to clear up a misunderstanding of a dumb rumour. I’m nothing more than a fan who certainly isn’t ‘in the know’ and doesn’t deal in speculation.

If that was the case surely we’d just have the academy kid Perry on the bench? Just imagine the ridiculous situation of having to make a double sub involving Taylor if that were the case.

And that shows what absolute rubbish people come up with. This bloke also said Speed left Vale cos Clarke wanted him to water the pitch....as if

Ref the minutes applause issue.

I thought yesterday’s game, with its 4 separate minutes of applause, showed up the difficulty of showing respect in this way.

3 times, the applause was during eventful periods of play, which made the gesture feel very ragged and unsatisfactory (the other one was while an opposition player was getting treatment).

Instead of doing it this way, I would suggest a single tannoy announcement, probably at half time, and the fans could then show their respect without a chance of getting distracted.

The problem, for want of a better word, is that during the last 2 games, the minutes applause haven’t been as well respected in my opinion.  Yes, fans have applauded, but the crowd noise hasn’t diminished as was the case previously.  This may or may not bother the relatives of the deceased, only they can answer that one.

Personally, I think it's time to rethink the applause malarkey.  We should do a mini service at the start of each season and read out the names of those who have died in the previous 12 months.  We did something like this after the Covid season and it seemed far more respectful.  Families have a number of ways of having their loved ones commemorated at Vale.  There are obituaries in the programme - these could be added to a section on the official website.  Also, there are regular drive pasts by the statue as part of the deceased's funeral.  These seem far more appropriate than having a load of strangers clapping for someone they've never met.

Thought the game was scrappy but we deserved the three points. Stone's kicking was good from BOTH feet but his coming for crosses strategy, worried me. Smith outstanding in the air and fellow defenders were sound. Agreed about Pett and kooky we didn't get a sending off.

Feel we play better away from home and now that we have 4 strikers available, it gives us options. Ellis earlier in the season was winning most headers, of late, he still looks a bit rusty.

Midfield set up looked good, but opposition poor with terrible ball retention.

Looking forward to the next few games as safety draws closer.

I think the kicking is the reason he plays. Not sure if I understand modern goalkeeping.  A lot of "top" keepers around the world seem to be rated more in terms of their ability to play as a sweeper than a keeper. I guess someone somewhere does statistical analysis which effectively shows having an extra defender over a top keeper reduces goals. I know at the higher level bigger outfield players who are not going to progress at 16 or 18 are often given the opportunity to convert to keeping.

At Stoke they show all the deceased that have died in the previous 12 mths on the big screen at the first match in the new year

What are they going to do if someone lives to the ripe old age of 98 ? Although with Injury time increasing all the time I guess it's plausible.

On a serious note. There has to be a better way. Think we've had 8 now in our last 2 homes.

I've just watched bin dippers spank United and there wasn't any. Law of averages with 50'000 odd you'd expect a fan to have passed recently.

Needs looking at and a pre game applause is my preference.

We certainly need those 'strikers' wherever they're hiding. 12 wins so far this season, six of these are 1-0 results, 50%! When are we going to get a hatfull again? I'd even settle for 3 goals in a game,  but one only has to look at our total goals scored and goal difference to see that we're in the bottom half dozen teams in this league!
