Match Thread: Port Vale v Milton Keynes D

We certainly need those 'strikers' wherever they're hiding. 12 wins so far this season, six of these are 1-0 results, 50%! When are we going to get a hatfull again? I'd even settle for 3 goals in a game,  but one only has to look at our total goals scored and goal difference to see that we're in the bottom half dozen teams in this league!
Were the 70s the Arsenal 1-0 era? Score a goal, and the game was over.

Big fan of the minutes applause. More of those please.

Next week we should try and go for five.

I would have thought DC is looking to next season Re Stevens. He’s not been good enough, we won’t want him next season so he may as well give Stone game time to improve. Can’t see it being that we can’t afford to pick a loan player

Yeah since we’re basically safe it makes no sense to play the loan player we’re not going to sign over our own player. Don’t think Stone will improve much but it gives him game time at least to try.

Personally, I think it's time to rethink the applause malarkey.  We should do a mini service at the start of each season and read out the names of those who have died in the previous 12 months.  We did something like this after the Covid season and it seemed far more respectful.  Families have a number of ways of having their loved ones commemorated at Vale.  There are obituaries in the programme - these could be added to a section on the official website.  Also, there are regular drive pasts by the statue as part of the deceased's funeral.  These seem far more appropriate than having a load of strangers clapping for someone they've never met.

There was that memorial service before the game against Portsmouth (IIRC) which absolutely killed (sorry!) any atmosphere before the game.

I agree the applause what feels like every 10 minutes is getting a bit silly now, whilst I appreciate the sentiment, of course.

I'll be very surprised if Stone is with us next season.

Been thinking about all these 1 nil wins. The usual appraisal is crap game, deserved to win,  poor pitch, terrible opponents.  I don't think we are giving the vale enough credit.  MK drew at Lincoln last away game. Were 2 up at Wednesday b4 collapsing.  Actually home results are their problem, not away results.  Can't say Exeter,  Charlton,  shrews etc are poor. Perhaps we have made them look poor?  Most of those games we have seen out relatively comfortably imo.

The point I was emphasising, is how 'lightweight' we have been up front.  How many times have we scored more than two in a league match?  We've only scored 35 goals in total--a number of teams in the higher reaches of the league table have scored that many or more in home fixtuures alone! Defensively we've not been the worst, but the lack of goals scored is skewing our GD which is just about the worst excluding the bottom six.

That's fine when you've got an 'iron curtain' defence.

I do agree, and I don’t rate him at all personally. I’d be ok with him as number two as a cheap option as long as we signed a clear number 1 with a good history of being injury free.
