He got forward more than in previous games last night, which is what he's good at. When he sits back and doesn't get forward, or isn't allowed to by the opposition, I find him extremely limited. Doing it against a shambolic Accrington team is one thing.

His running in advanced positions were certainly causing problems.

I would have agreed with your limited view at the start of the season. I never thought him as more than a runner but I really think he’s one of our most improved players this season with his passing and control. Still has work to do like all other players, especially those who have never played at this level before.

Garrity would be one of the 1st names on the team sheet for me and contender for player of the season with Smudge.

Nobody would deny that. That’s stating the obvious but Walker doesn’t have the energy to rat players, close them down and press like Garrity. Your eyes follow the ball instead of watching the player off the ball. Then you will see what qualities Garrity brings to the side.

Saying he is a League 2 player is baseless and an unnecessary cheap dig at one of our most consistent players.

Garrity is our Jordan Henderson two seasons ago for Liverpool. Lacks technical ability but has high energy and a desire to improve and play anywhere he is asked to. Every team needs a player like that.

He's consistently poor to average when playing in a deeper role. I have no problem using him where it makes much more sense, further up the field.

It's also not a dig, it's an opinion. You clearly rate him as a central midfielder. I obviously don't. Simple as that.

Well we don't really know if he's League One level in his best position because he rarely plays there, which you have just said yourself. What I do know is that he has little to no ability on the ball, and isn't suited to playing in a two man midfield. He only got forward more last night because we were playing a League Two bound team. If he's not breaking forward and making runs into the oppositions box he offers next to nothing.

Yes! But when he has played in this unfamiliar position he’s currently our third best player in the squad. The stats don’t lie. Third even out of position and you’re questioning whether his League One ability. Are you starting to understand it now?

Regardless of the rather inept officiating performance as a whole, we were absolute gash again last night. Accrington apparently have injuries going into double figures across the pitch, with at least six of those being defenders. The deadwood is beginning to become more apparent as the season goes on - Benning, Jones, Conlon, Massey were all absolutely woeful last night. As I mentioned on Saturday, I do believe we will have enough come May, and that will largely be down to the likes of Wilson, Harrison, etc.

Just on January’s recruitment - to not sign a LWB to challenge Benning is so poor.

He’s basically been out only consistent performer since November. Was MoM against Plymouth and Derby for me. Was MoM against Wycombe and Accrington for different reasons. First name on the team sheet regardless of 343 or 352. His improvement has been immense and he gives 100% every game. Other players to focus on who need to improve more than Ben.

What was apparent last night again is our inability to move the ball through midfield quickly.

A lot of stuff involves stopping, doing a pirouette, then ending back on favoured foot whilst the opposition have then regrouped.

We need quicker balls to feet instead of ponderous stuff. Quick incisive passing as opposed to being telegraphed.

Totally agree with the post. I was impressed with Garrity, Worrall and Jones last night. We look a pale shadow of our pre-Christmas side for whatever reason, Accrington's spoilers didn't help. We looked better than them but not to such an extent that we were considerably better.  A really poor run of form and many are still talking of the Matty Taylor "being injured" signing, I do think it could have been communicated better. Whilst appreciative of all the 'bad-times' at Vale for many years and the progress made on and off the pitch, we need to turn this form and negativity that runs with it around sooner rather than later. Not wasting too much time on the officials but really do not understand why the 'clown' did not give the goal instead of a pen.

I assume the club have filed a report to this effect. Is Mr Speedie still at Vale filling out his bookings/ sending off forms?!!! Must know John Coleman from Liverpool F.A

No doubt we will file a very uncomplimemtary report. Trouble is Coleman will file a very complimentary report.  So nothing will come of it.

Only if the official referee " watcher" is extremely critical will a reprimand be made.

Our reports are always very detailed and very fair.  Colin Garlick is meticulous with them.

Mal Benning is really struggling and Conlon apart from 10 mins before went off was struggling also .
Marks
Stevens nowt do 6 kicking a bit dodgy first half ,when's he going save a penalty .
Smith 6.7 solid enough scored winner headed one over while attacking ball from.corner more of that with better execution.
Jones 7.5 lovely passing really really like this player shame his shot in first half didn't fly in I'd like see him go up for corners too he had a terrific header v Derby just wide he is going score very soon my prediction is .
Donnelly 5.7 I'm.not sure seems like he passes the ball into the wrong areas and struggles defensively at times .
Worrall 6.7 nice equaliser but not happy with that other attempt he had where he miskicked from another
good position .
Garrity 7.7 my man of the match good have him back in his rightful place he did hell of a lot of good things I thought shame his headers are ballooning over at present but next one will fly in .
Ojo 5.3 never got hold of the ball shot over when should be making goalie work to be honest glad he was substituted as was offering nothing .
Penalised for foul for pen if that's a pen the games gone .
Benning 4 terrible again I fail to see what he offers he doesn't score he doesn't assist what does he do he plays safe all the time and shows no belief in the job he is supposed be doing .
Needs be dropped and find the hunger perform in my opinion.
Proctor 5 much ado about nothing glad see him back but really Politic with his directness offers way more .

Conlon 5.3 as effective as ojo not very at all had a decent shot just wide involved in equaliser but first half didn't do anything of note apart from a 35 yard shot which a 3 year could save .
Massey 6.5 not a centre forward as that first half lets try hit the corner flag proved from a very good position in fairness but I'm going say this never hides and team wise is doing a very good job .
Subs Butterworth did more in his cameo than Benning did all game Holden for me did OK mipo well is mipo runs about a lot but never seems to get in positions in home games to net ..
