Judging by the prices they were charging I think Stafford were expecting our first team. That was Griffith’s second outing and he hasn’t impressed in either - he gave away the first pen. Solanke looked a far better bet. I’m surprised the bulk of that squad were allowed out so late - they must have had homework to do.

Fitness for backup players + opportunity to look at trialists without depriving first team players of valuable minutes + more opportunity for the management to assess if their tactics are set up right + chance to see how the young lads cope with playing against men + allow Clarke/Crosby/Whitehead to work with 10+ Under 18s and further integrate their pathway from youth to senior team.

Similar to most pre-season friendlies, in fact - it's rarely about winning the games...although that'a a good habit!

£10 is their standard charge. Makes the change simple apart from anything else.

Tbh Jean I cant see any of the trialists we have had so far being taken on(unless they are showing something in training),the idea is to unearth that Gem of a trialist but thats a hard task, costs nowt though to bring players in on trial(nice see a young striker in on trial)

I think the way to look at it is people paid £9 to keep Stafford going. It'll be a massive revenue boost after the year they've had.

90% of trailists are naff but you do stumble across Tom Conlon if you're lucky. We had Neal Eardley a few years ago who we rejected, and subsequently went to Lincoln and was a key player in their rise to League 1.

I think I’m correct in saying that both trialists are midfielders, a position we’re not looking to fill according to JC, so you’d have to think that both would be players to potentially develop rather than first team squad players.  Most likely then that one, or both, should we take them on, would be loaned out.
