I love this ... it’s a “who knows the players better” battle!
I AM a gambling man and have £10 on McGreal at 23/1 and £10 on Flitcroft at 4/1 to cover it so either way I’m ok.

Winner either way then

Some interesting responses on here to the latest development. I'd like to add some context. In the past TWENTY YEARS we have only achieved a top 7 finish in the league... ONCE. This was under MA

The meltdown on here is laughable.  Please can someone tell me the success we have had in appointing a manager since Micky left? None. Flitcroft being appointed DoF shows our long term visio

Check out wiki.  He's run the family business with his brother and father for 15 years and has his own football academy.  He's not been "just" a player and manager.  In view of the amount of crit

Unless it’s neither then you’re £20 down

All too true... Vissers agent who was very angry on Twitter about his injury is now saying he knows who it is... when the three names of Cowley, McGreal and Flitcroft are mentioned he says it’s one of those 3 but not Cowley.

An extended and recent interview between McGreal (who I think will be the man) and D3D4:

Won't be John McGreal he doesn't tick all of Carol's boxes... I think he would have been close.

If we are looking at his career, he did well at Millwall too for a time.

So your criteria for doing well is 14 wins in 62 games?  Thank heavens you're not making the appointment.

Will be really underwhelmed if it's Flitcroft. Strikes me as the kind of guy who can talk a great game in an interview but has never really delivered anywhere he's been.

Was ploughed with funds at Bury which saw them promoted & eventually go bump... had loads of money at Mansfield, failed to get promoted from league 2.

Relegated at Bolton (admittedly an impossible job that season) Sacked by Barnsley & left Swindon part way through a season when moneybags Mansfield came calling...

Can anybody change my mind & make me feel more optimistic? Whoever the new guy is he will get my backing but just don't see the clamor for Flitcroft... or McGreal for that matter.

McGreal did okay at Colchester... got a side who would be expected to be in the playoffs into the playoffs then lost. Nothing special & no previous management experience before the Colchester job either.

If it is Flitcroft he played 352 for the vast majority of the time at Mansfield, so Crookes will be happy. Interestingly apart from when they played us and he played 433.

At Swindon he played a mix of 4231 and 3412

at Bury it was 442

He saved the club from relegation from the Championship. They looked doomed at the time. That’s the difference, a guy who has worked at a high level, or some blokes at clubs that at best may enjoy a season or two at league 1 level.

Im friends with a couple of the players and they dont have a clue ahaha

I'm sure the players will know tomorrow when they arrive at the ground and are told two things -:

1/ Your new manager is watching you in the stand so you need to impress him today.

2/ Keep your mouth shut and don't disclose who until after the press conference on Monday.

We're a dog <ovf censored> side with thoroughly decent but skint owners, in the middle of a pandemic.

Flitcroft is among the best we can realistlcally hope for.

They don't need to know anything and as for keeping their mouths shut ....no chance with our players record on twitter.

Just for the record, I have absolutely no idea whether it will be Flitcroft or Fred Flintstone. Both him and McGreal are far better options than Danny Pugh though, that's for sure.

On the Flitcroft front, he seems fairly blunt and doesn't shy away from releasing a load. A no-nonsense, which will appeal to many:

Thanks, Joe B - I enjoyed listening to this. As you say, a real no-nonsense fella. If he's appointed, let's hope he is as good as his word.

It does not, though, alter my preference for Adams whose record of promotions with every club he's been at puts him, on merit, in pole position.

We are probably too late for him. If we'd started this process weeks ago, we might have stood a fair chance. Now it's looking increasingly unlikely. If we don't appoint him, he will be the one that got away

I work with lots of people who talk really well in meetings... proof will be in the pudding i guess , survival this year , and then how he does business on half the budget he’s been used to.
