Match Thread - Port Vale v Stoke C U21

This just keeps getting better.

Loads of them banned from football, exposed to the country as the braindead thugs they are, a refurb to the away end, few quid for the Jan window, goading them 4 times in an evening, Vale legend Tom Pope bags in front of 4,000 lardies. Did I miss anything?

Superb. Up the checkatrade. Never doubted the competition.

It gets better, some of the Hamil Road 11 have just been named by the rozzers

Officers expect to make lots more arrests in the coming days

I went last night and it reminded of me of when I stopped going to the Derby games, fortunately I am of an age where I went to the first Derby at the old Victoria Ground, fantastic atmosphere and great occasions, but as time went by they got steadily worse, I took my kids to see the home game (don't recall what year), but we were losing 0-1 and Lee Mills scored a last minute equaliser,

going to and leaving the ground was very uncomfortable

and that was the last Derby I took my kids to...

There is absolutely no explanation or mitigation for that wanton vandalism in the toilets. Trying to explain it is pointless - you can't produce a rational explanation for totally irrational behaviour.

Fred Hughes the historian and Ellis Cashmore (Rent a quote) have an explanation,

Quote.."Ellis Cashmore, a former lecturer at Staffordshire University, says the thugs who took part in the violence believed that they were showing their loyalty by fighting for Stoke.

Mr Cashmore – co-author of Football’s Dark Side: Corruption, Homophobia, Violence and Racism in the Beautiful Game – said: “Everyone says that, ‘they are not really fans’, but it’s the opposite. These people believe that they are the true fans. They are not disguising their affiliation to the club.

“They regard the Piers Morgans of this world as the imposters, as it has become fashionable to be a football fan.

“Their view is that they are fighting for the club. The club is not endorsing their behaviour and most people would say that it is damaging to the club, but they don’t see it like that. It is a different perspective of being a fan.”

Burslem historian and ex-police officer Fred Hughes – who lives within walking distance of Vale Park – believes the violence that broke out could be linked to the recent growth of ‘populism’ and a localised form of nationalism.

He said: “Mr Cashmore is probably right. The fans are fighting for their club and that is more worrying, this is where nationalism comes into it":banghead::banghead::banghead:

If Ellis Cashmore was made of chocolate he’d eat himself.

Perfect summary by QPR fan on Twitter....

“Stoke taking 4000 to a pointless cup which is meant to be boycotted, smashing up the place, whilst losing 4-0 to Port Vale and pretending like they don't care has to be up there with the most embarrassing situations in football.”

Our neighbours really are special.

By any chance is this the same QPR fan from the YouTube video when we beat them a few years back ?????....... f*£king Pott Vale?????

I've never liked all seating Stadiums and always thought they have bigger health and safety issues much worse than standing terraces. Well I know it was a one off situation at Vale but was expected considering the fact that the opposition were the most evil fans in English football. Now's the time to "rip the Seats Out" and replace them to standing only areas.

In the run up to this game I said the only way we can win is by not attending and boycotting the game. I stayed away and stand by my decision to do so. But, I was wrong in criticising anyone that decided to go, so hold my hand up and apologise. From a no win situation for Vale, we came out of that match as winners on all fronts. From a no lose situation, Stoke came out of it as the biggest bunch of losers in the land. An absolute laughing stock of a club, followed by a huge number of absolute vermin. Noticed good old Wezzer on the oatcake, proud as punch in his summary that "70% of the away end were lads". The absolute state of it. If you read this you muppet, you're a mess, and your "lads" made you look like a bunch of cowards. Be lard, be round, be Stoke.

These sort of comments from lazy London journalists who have obviously never attended a lower league game north of Waford .... and are to lazy to even research other than on Wikipedia really boil my P155.

The Daily MailOnline

“Questions have also been asked of the home club and why rival fans were seated close to each other. The ground’s capacity is around 19,000 and there is a belief in some quarters that the crowd of 7,940 could have been segregated more effectively.”

I’m surprised the Mail on line didn’t blame the trouble on Migrants or Jeremy Corbyn
