Where will we finish?

I don't think we've got much of a clue!

We all hope that we're better than last year and that one or two of the new lads can step up to the plate, but on the other hand we do have a lot of inexperienced players who are new to league football and I still worry if Pope got injured, let alone a lack of pace/creativity in the final third.

But we do look better and stronger than last year, so fingers crossed.

The Guardian has got us down as a possible surprise package and Idris Kanu as a player to watch out for.

They clearly didn't watch us from January onwards last year.

A better squad than last year so I think we will avoid relegation by more than one goal and one point but only just. I will say 18th.

Aspin needs time. Mid table (10th to 17th) will be acceptable next season after another (much needed) rebuild of the squad. As long as we're clear of relegation worries next year then it will give us a decent platform for a play off push in 2019-20. Not very exciting but realistic. I've been a Vale fan since the early 80s and I'm prepared to be patient with Aspin. I'm scrutinizing every move, word and action that NS makes as I'm highly suspicious of him. I hope he proves me wrong by letting Aspo take care of football matters at VP.

I go back a bit further but I agree with you. For all his faults Billy Bell gave Rudgie his head when it came to football matters; Smurthwaite should do the same. After all, isn't Aspo being assisted by the selfsame Rudgie?
