Surely IF Vale do eventually get payment for any Hugill transfer then Norman will seriously consider selling up and trousering the money? As things stand Vale will attract no bidders at Smurf's price but if he were to get a sizeable lump from Hugill's sale he would sell the Club for reasonable money rather than see his "investment" here slowly slide down the toilet?

I think that’s been his plan all along.

Taken off Facebook so not my words:

After appointing Neil Aspin the majority of fans were hoodwinked into thinking Smurthwaite was trying to make amends and were saying give him time etc. Some of us reserved judgement.

With only 2 days of the window to go we are now in a real struggle to recruit people and it seems Smurthwaites claims that he would back Aspin were nothing more than hot air, again.

Smurthwaite has also been up to his old tricks again of private messaging normal fans and telling them stuff he shouldn't. It appears he is trying to undermine the management team and deflect blame from himself, again.

Some of his pearls of wisdom include;

He says Anderson asked to end his loan so can sign permanently for Doncaster in the summer. Why does he need to leave now to sign in July?

Smurthwaite says he's turned down a 25K bid from Coventry for Pope, could be true I suppose but what does he want, a Blue Peter Badge?.

He claims to have sanctioned an additional budget in November, but it's not his fault if we can’t sign anyone. So the bad reputation he has earned for PVFC has nothing to do with it? Here he is deflecting blame to Aspin and Rudge a foolish move that will backfire on him.

He says he's spent 500K paying off players in the last last 2 yrs, however wasn't this down to his madcap scheme and he said he would personally cover this, so why is this an issue?

This is a classic, he says the budget is 400K up on last year with gates 20% down and there is only one way that will go. The fact is the average gates this season are only 71 fans down (1.8%) on last seasons average but why let facts get in the way of his ********.

He doesn’t do day to day running of club since May apart from sorting Aspin/Brown. Still manages to do the pie run on a Saturday though, must be a nice earner that. Buy a warm pie for £1 at Asda, and sell it cold for £2.50 at the Vale.

Finally, and most crucially in my opinion, Smurthwaite claims Gunning wanted the same terms as Pope. He knew what Gunning wanted 1 month before he left but the management didn’t listen/believe him and didn't get it sorted earlier. So a man who earlier claimed he had no involvement in the running of the club now claims he had been dealing with Gunnings contract situation? Really Norman, do you think fans are really that thick to believe this? Given how Aspin has conducted himself to date do you really think we will believe that him and Rudge would not discuss sorting a contract for someone they desparately wanted to keep?

I'm posting this as fans should be aware of what this man is up to. He obviously doesn't understand what a gem he has in Aspin and he doesn't understand the uproar it will cause if Aspin decides to call it a day.

He's learned from his mistakes and is making things right we were told, seems he is still as big a pillock as he was before!

I'm genuinely unsure what is wrong with any of that. Most football fans would love a chairman who responds to fans personally.
