The OVF January Transfer Window thread

What tripe has come from the owner recently then for people to start turning AGAIN? The fact is we have been awful in January. That lies with Aspin end of.

A lot of it is down to players not the manager, they have the ability to play much better than of recent and have done against Coventry and Luton etc. We have some players who only play when they want too and did the same only worse under Brown. Also as said we have a generally young defence which will make mistakes but they can become good players in the future if we can just get through last 16 matches. Aspin is doing his best with what he had but I do agree that even an out of form Whitfield is still better than Montano. My view for rest of season is to go 3-5-2 let’s not ever get outnumbered in midfield for a while!

We need sign our own players and use the loan system in emergencies. Loans are either a waste of space or, when they are decent they are just in the shop window for a bigger spending club (in terms of wages) to nip in and pinch them.

Be interesting (and probably annoying) to see where big Tom ends up by this time tomorrow night.

Few people reckon we are having Sam Jones from Grimsby. Played under Aspin at Gateshead last season. Looks like he’s a big, box to box central midfield player who can play in a few other positions too.
Not in the squad that lost at Yeovil tonight, when did he last play?

The Grimsby press reported earlier this month that Scunthorpe were after him. He's Grimsby's top scorer, impressed for them after joining for an undisclosed fee on last January deadline day (scored 16 last season for Gateshead & Grimsby), and missed last Saturday's game with illness - so that's probably why he's not involved again tonight.

All of that indicates that we're unlikely to sign him, as he'd surely cost a fee for a start (unless an expected Hugill move tomorrow means that Smurthwaite is letting Aspin splash the cash.......ha ha - only joking, of course!)
