Should pope start

Pope is now an "in form" striker. He adds loads more to the team than just goals but thankfully he is now also adding goals. He's looking fitter and stronger now and will be a worry to most defenders at this level. No more silly threads about him starting please- he is rightfully the first name on the team sheet.

Do you go the matches?

He did have service and he missed chances. That's a fact.

4 in 13 if he can continue throughout the season that will be ok. Take out today and those figures look much worse.

He has looked much better since aspin came in but it's been 2 games... so let's see and hope he can keep it up and get us climbing the table. If he can score another 5 or so in the next 10 matches we will be in a much better place than now.

No need for you comments if 'we know better' load of rubbish that. Expected though.

Yes, I attend matches unless working or something very important gets priority. Do you ?

Glad I didn't disappoint with what you expected from my posts, always glad to be of service to someone of such great football wisdom and tactical genius.

Seems a couple of other people have a similar opinion on your startling revelation that Pope's record would not be so good if we ignored the goals he scored - genius, that.

So to sum up, in your opinion Pope shouldn't start, only come of as an impact sub for 20 mins, doesn't score enough, is responsible for goals Vale concede (which is a load of rubbish), doesn't get around the pitch enough, can't jump high enough, regularly beaten in the air, isn't fast enough, isn't fit and can't run.

Well, anyone who has seen the games this season knows your opinion is so way off the mark it's laughable and today's game amply shows it.

PS. That's now 4 in 13 which if it continues will be around 12-16/season, a decent return over a season for a striker in most people's opinion.

Paul you have to judge players not only over one game (today he was excellent) but over the season. You need to go to games to have a more rounded view. Hopefully he has now turned a corner, he certainly looked a heck of a lot fitter today, his work rate was great, he didn’t let the sitter he missed affect him, took his second goal sublimely and also defended well (he picked up their number 7 at set pieces) which he has struggled with clearly over recent games. The thing that impressed me the most was that he got off the ground to challenge for headers regularly, something he hasn’t done a lot of regularly this season.

One game doesn’t change a season but it’s a very promising start and the influence of Aspin and co seems to be paying off.

Tom Pope showed us all today why he is I'm sure one of the first players on the team sheet. He won virtually every ball and yes he did miss a good chance but made up with two beauties.

A number on here were calling for Barnett to take his place but on today's showing never in a month of Sundays. Tom won everything while Barnett was disappointing after he came on.

Tom didn’t win a thing for 20 mins, after that he did well.Barnett was involved in Whitfield’s goal and his challenge set Pope up for the third.
