You can make excuses for his January transfer signings and let him off a bit because it was a difficult situation. But he is fully accountable for this summer's signings and this season's tactics, team selections and results.

He did a bad job in difficult circumstances last season and although the club isn't in perfect condition right now he has been allowed full control and we now have a squad of 34 players. He has signed or re-signed every single one of those players, barring the odd possible exception such as Forrestor. He could have a completely different 34 players playing in a completely different way, or instead of 34 he could have a squad of 24. No excuses this season but already he has blamed injuries, refereeing decisions, needing time to settle and bad luck, seeing as he can't blame lack of fitness or it not being his team.

Same issues still there, defensive lapses on set pieces, can't score yet we have multiple strikers, injuries ravaging the team and negative tactics which don't seem to be planned to the opposition at all.

Key quote highlighted.

These are difficult circumstances for Brown. That doesn't mean he isn't doing an absolutely woeful job, and is falling way short of the minimum expectations I had for him.

he has blamed injuries, refereeing decisions, needing time to settle and bad luck,

Well yes but if just one of those things had gone the other way we could be in the playoff positions now.

I was talking to my aunty last night who revealed that if things had been a bit different in the clockweights dept. she would have been my uncle.

Reading[edit]

On 26 March 2013, Adkins was appointed manager at fellow Premier League club Reading in succession to Brian McDermott, who had been dismissed a fortnight earlier.[17] His first game in charge ended in a 4–1 defeat away to Arsenal on 30 March 2013. Adkins could not stop Reading from being relegated, and they started the 2013–14 season in the Championship. On 15 December 2014, Adkins was sacked following his side's 6–1 defeat to Birmingham which left them ten points behind a play-off place in the Championship.[18]

Sheffield United[edit]

On 2 June 2015, Adkins was appointed as the manager at League One club Sheffield United.[19]

Sheffield United ended the season in 11th place, their lowest league position since 1983, eight points from the play-offs. Because of this, Adkins was sacked on 12 May 2016.[20]

According to Wikipedia his last two appointments haven't ended well...

Absolutely.

Smurtwaites track record suggests it would be someone even cheaper and worse than Brown!

If we lose again at Coventry its up to Kim Jong Un Smurthwaite to do something about it.

If as he says he will get rid of Brown and his management team if we lose he should keep to his word.

He will still need to appoint a decent manager as he can't do it on his own and on his past record of appointing managers which isn't brilliant I just hope he gives it a bit of thought.

If not he will go down as the worst owner in the history of Port Vale.

We're crying out for another Mickey Adams type appointment.

The remit for the next manager must be:

200+ games managed in the football league

Around a 40% average win ratio

Someone who has preferably managed higher and needs the platform to rebuild their career - or someone doing good work in L2 currently.

Someone that demands hard work and effort and a "spikey" character

If we're not going to poach an Ainsworth or a Flynn then someone like Billy Davis or Steve Cotterill is needed.

But this won't happen until we start being run like a football club again and not like a circus.

MORE PRESSURE IS NEEDED ON NORMAN TO SELL.

Even if Norman did sell unless he got rid of Brown and his cronies we could be back to square one as the new owners might want to give Baldrick Brown another chance so it's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
