Seen some clippings of summer signings of some greats and some turkeys got me thinking about my favourite starting eleven from my first match in 84' to present season.Heres my starting eleven my what do you think?

GK Grew

RB Mills

LB Tankard

CB Aspin

CB Deano

LW Guppy

CM Earle

CM Walker

RW Ainsworth

ST Beefy

ST Tosh

Subs

Goodlad

Darren Hughes

Sproson

Ian Taylor

McCarthy

Van Der Laan

Can't believe some of the players left out of the match day squad like Russell Bromage,Alan Webb,Hazel,Bogie,Bridgey,Brooker,Porter, Carragher, Brammer, Nicky Cross,Ron Futcher,

Wow makes me think what a privilege it has been to be Vale supporter to enjoy watching some of these players.

I was going to have a go at this, but only got as far as defence before I just couldn't decide between about 10 players, so gave up! I'll just say I am privileged to have seen some great players in action and hope we can emulate some of our better times under Rudgie, in the next few years! What was that quote about "Rudgie's greyhounds (or dogs of war?)" when we shredded Everton's defence for the winner? And the Daily Express sportswriter saying he wasn't going to watch the top League - he was going to Vale Park, to watch the Chamberlains?? Great times!

GOODLAD

MILLS

TANKARD

GLOVER

HAZELL

AINSWORTH

EARLE

TAYLOR

GUPPY

BECKFORD

NAYLOR

My selections are possibly with my heart rather than my head. Most from good times and promotions.

Was loathe to miss out a couple of my all time heroes Bob Newton and Stevie Fox ( RIP ) BUT realistically big bad Bob wasn't a patch on the likes of McPhee, Naylor, Jones etc but will always be my cult favourite.

It seems to be a given that our best winger was Guppy with McCarthy and Ainsworth vying for 2nd place. Who was better, Macca or Gareth? I say... McCarthy

Guppy was for me the better all round footballer but there were few better sites than McCarthy tearing down the wing..more of an out and out winger for me. Guppy would get in my team.

It's worth remembering that Guppy got a lot of stick from the Vale boo-boys, at one time! - moaned he couldn't cross e ball!!!

For my money, it was McCarthy, too, just ahead of Guppy and Ainsworth!

Always a scapegoat at Vale, Messi wouldn't be good enough for some.
