I have/had no agenda against Page, but to suggest he gave Campion a chance is laughable. Even when he came on and scored for the first team all Page said was "well he got his goal". Even Stevie Wonder could see there was an issue there. I wish him well, in the cameo's I saw him have he seemed to have something about him. We will never know which is a shame.

I watched Campion play for the previous 2 seasons in the reserves. When he was scoring goals a couple of seasons ago that led to Page giving him his chance. But reserve football is in the main an u21 standard and I think that when he did play for the first team that the jump in quality and competitiveness saw him suffer a bit and he couldn't make much of an impact.

I think he needed to go out on loan to play competitive football at a lower level for a period of time like Nathan Smith did to get the experience he needed. Last season in the reserves he was nowhere near as good as the previous year, he didn't score as many goals and as a result he didn't get much of a look in.

At the end of the day its up to the player to make the decision hard for the manager with his day to day training and also putting in the performances no matter what games hes playing in. Players rarely get their chance to prove themselves in a league one game, they have to do it in training and other games to put themselves in contention with the manager.

What I saw of him at reserves he did have an eye for goal, his hold up play was definitely improving, especially in to his chest and he was able to bring other players in to the game or just hold it up to buy the team a freekick of some time. I thought he was decent in the air for someone who wasn't massively tall. Sometimes he had a tendancy to try too much, not releasing the ball early enough for instance or holding on too long and when tackled turn round and moan and make himself look a bit lazy by not getting back quicker. But there was something there but I don't think he was quite ready for league one yet.

Ignore any remarks about the pervious manager (Rob Page)as some on here had a hate agenda against Page for no good reason, which they are seemingly carrying on. I also wish Page well at Northampton except against Vale.

Really not sure what that comment has to do with this thread? As Tim says it's not expressing a hate agenda against Page I(and others) simply didn't/don't rate Page as a manager possibly like he didn't rate Campion as a footballer. That's football! I don't wish Page any ill or hatred it's just my opinion!

He did go out on loan to Torquay but broke his nose and was sent back. JJ Hooper didn't look like he had much to offer when Page first played him, but he persevered with him and he came good. Campion was never given the same amount of game time though for whatever reason.

Sometimes you just have to trust the managers judgement, especially one who finishes half way in Div 1 after taking over from Adams who left us in the bottom four.

The same manager who didn't think Andoh was good enough and only found out when he was forced to play him when Marshall left? Or the same manager who thought Birchall was good enough to keep offering him contracts?

Yes he didn't play much for Torquay and so didn't get that game time. Just shows how a bit of bad luck can affect a players fortunes too.

If Page was still Manager we would still have McGovern and Duffy shipping goals for fun and Streete and Smith would be warming the bench.

Our defensive record was top half last season, 11th out of 24. It wasn't helped by the two fours and a five we conceded in the last ten or so games. By mid March we still had the 5th best defence in the league.

Streete's form wasn't great for much of last season while Smith was out on loan for a reason and has come back a far better player for it.

As for McGivern, he was one of the few players that Page didn't offer a contract to in the summer.

Campion is playing in a fairly poor league, with the exception of Dundalk, who almost made it into the Champions League group stages, and Cork City.

The likes of Derry City and Shamrock Rovers are up there but a good manager makes the difference , and Stephen Kenny at Dundalk is a brilliant manager.

He won't score 20 goals this season, as it ends in October, but also because I think he is an average player, and definitely not L1 standard.

Think the real problem was that he was bought in by Smurf and Page kept playing his favourites Duffy and love child Dodds no matter how poor they played. As previously stated he didn't play Andoh until Marshall left and then found he had a player who should have been given a chance earlier.

How many on here would have advocated dropping Marshall for a lad who had never played a League game? There was despair on here when Marshall left.

The issue wasn't about dropping Marshall for Andoh, it was about giving Andoh a chance. Page for some reason wouldn't even put him on the bench or give him the last 20 mins when we're losing.
