Bury make huge losses

I know there's a lot of debate around Vale's cost cutting but leaving aside whether the club could promote things better and thus generate more income for the playing budget, it at least seems that Vale's strategy of living within our means is far better than Bury's short-term approach.

I've already mentioned this Guardian article by David Conn before which mentions a ridiculous "payday-style loan" on the ground - https://www.theguardian.com/football/david-conn-inside-sport-blog/2014/nov/12/bury-high-interest-loans-shadow-recovery

Now, the club have announced some figures for the 2014-15 season which are frightening:

* a loss of £240,000 per month

* an annual trading loss of £2.9 million for the season

* overall debt up from £2.7m to £5.1m

Now, bear in mind that is for the season 2014-15 so it DOESN'T even take in account this year's expensive additions such as Peter Clarke, Leon Clarke and Tom Pope.

Gawd knows what their finances are like now...

You can see why Smurf is trying to cut costs at Vale Park so we are not in the same position.

Hope he sorts out the commercial side of Vale Park. Didn't Smurf mention using Vale Park 7 days a week to bring money into the club. You don't see the club promoting this side of the business at all. If businesses saw others using Vale Park then they may be interested. It seems to be - we will leave it to companies to get in touch with us rather than go out and find them.

All you hear is negative posts - I have a box and the commercial teams have not contacted me to renew.

Without putting words in his head, I guess the point is the club should cover both options and not assume everyone will simply renew.

Surely it's both courteous and makes business-sense to contact people just to enquire about whether they want to renew.

And it's not exactly something that would cost a great deal in terms of time and money either. Just fire off a letter, an email, pick up the phone...

Also an opportunity to suggest other options/sales etc especially to top customers

Exactly. If there was any club that Smurf to use to justify his cost cutting moves, Bury would be the one. Of course all that loaned money costs interest to somebody, as does any debt. Hence if Vale ever get into profit, even a small one, we could be very strong.

Nobody in their right mind wants us to splash the cash like Bury. The are an accident waiting to happen.

My problem with Norman is that the budget cuts, year on year, do not reflect lost money through attendances, which have held up reasonably well again. We simply are not hemorrhaging supporters year on year. Nowhere near to justify reported 800k budget cuts.

Something doesnt add up with Norman. Mainly his figures.

The budget cuts taken have been unreasonable and no way to run a successful football club.

aside from pope, because im not a fan in the slightest of signing ex player's, if they drastically need to cut player's wage bill maybe some of there players would be worth a punt.

tom soares, jacob mellis, chris eagles, kelvin etuhu just to name a few...

But if they've been on stupidly high wages would they want to come here? They may eventually do but it would probably take them a few weeks and other similar contract offers from other clubs for them to realise that not everyone offers silly money. anymore.

Please remember when calculating ST income that a high proportion of our dedicated supporters are pensioners who do not pay anything like £345. However, clearly people are not falling over themselves to get into Vale Park, so some positive salesmanship is required.

Bury must be trying to compete with Bolton up the road,to see who can go out of business first?
