It appears we've gone to any number of 'legends ' that have been associated with our club.I thought we were talking about managers.

Anyway ,7 managers have achieved promotion with the Vale in our history.Tom Morgan,Freddie Steele,Norman Low,Gordon Lee,John McGrath,John Rudge(a few) and Micky Adams. The last 60 years have seen 5 managers getting promotion.Thankyou Micky ,but please take up gardening.

He's a lazy manager. From all accounts, he never goes out and watches games to run the rule over potential signings preferring instead to go off circulated lists of available players or to sign players who've played for him before. Look where that's got him. OK, he's a family man and credit to him for that but when you're a football manager you have to make sacrifices. Contrast that with John Rudge who used to be out on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings watching matches and even took his wife with him on occasions. He knew everything about every player in the lower divisions and that's why he rarely made a bad signing. That's why the club was so successful during his reign. Oh for another John Rudge!!

They could be down next week. They are away to Plymouth who are hanging on to a play-off spot whilst Cheltenham and the Monkey Hangers both have home games. If either of them win and Tranny lose they are gone. Very sad - I like going to Tranmere.

The last game is Bury at home as well. When we moved to the Wirral Tranmere survived on the last day of the season. But then climbed the league and reached a Championship playoff semi final and a league cup final. I used to watch them with my friends when we had a family and it wasn't convenient to go to Port Vale.

The sad thing is the loss of another club in the North to league football - who could provide some reasonably close rivalry for Port Vale - Stockport and Wrexham already down there and it will be very hard to get back. The cub's fate was probably sealed last summer with the turnover of players. Micky is a good manager, but a large number of the players are obviously not league standard - concede goals through central defence with a simple long kick down the pitch and failing to head or kick it away etc.

His loan signings worked for a while but in the end his determination has cleared soured the dressing room because the players can't respond. Not got the skill.

It'd be great to see if these people on here were actually slating Micky just two seasons ago. Some Football fans forget too easily, we had not been promoted for 19 years since then. So I just think when people actually go and slate him its very disrespectful and somewhat ungrateful for the job he did. And make no mistake about it, it wasn't exactly an easy one with the administration and lake of funding when V2001 was in charge.

Absolute legend. He delivered the first promotion I have ever witnessed to the team that I love. How can that not warrant legend status? Throughout the time I've supported this club, the only real good days or better days have come under Micky Adams. Who cares what his personality was like? He brought joy to us all in that promotion season and then took us to 9th in league one at the first attempt. Not forgetting he had to deal with administration along the way. I just find it sad and disrespectful how people have such short memories.

Sadly I dont have such a short memory and probably judge adams against all the others I have known in my time... and compared to them he isnt good enough, loved enough to be a legend... as a manager above matthews but well below some of the other names in our past... in your lifetime as a fan he may be the best you have seen but he has to be further up the ladder to clean the boots of some of the others.... but history changes... 60 years from now people my remember/think differently, or not... but if someone better comes along in the meantime he could well be overlooked

The term legend should be used in terms of the club's history, not your own personal supporting history. Otherwise a person who only started supporting last August might say Mark Marshall is a legend, Michael O'Connor is a legend, Chris Neal is a legend, etc. Very good players yes, legends never.

Micky Adams did a wonderful job in getting us promoted in the circumstances but he was only in a position to do that because he completely ballsed up the job at Sheff United having left us in the lurch mid season. Legends don't bugger off for the cash.

From dictionary.com:

Legend (noun)

6. a collection of stories about an admirable person.

7. a person who is the center of such stories: e.g She became a legend in her own lifetime.

So it is just a question of deciding if Micky Adams is an admirable person I guess.... He has been the centre of several stories at Vale...
