Gillingham v Port Vale match thread - Sat November 9th

Featured Replies

They had an off day. Most of them were sh!t. We're unbeaten in about 2 months aren't we, it happens.

All I'll say is this. Connor Grant I really don't ever want to see put a vale shirt on again. The fact that him and to a lesser extent Heneghan are getting a game but Smithy can't make the bench is criminal.

Edit: add to the above, Paton not getting a game by hackford is? Bizarre

Well, in management speak, we need to take the positives and learn the lessons from the negatives and come back refreshed for our next game or somethng...

I watched it onlne and it was a generally disappointing performance throughout. We might have grabbed a draw but we wouldn't have deserved it. They had certainly come up with a strategy to nulify us. Given that, I can't help but feel the subsitutions were too little to late to get the equaliser we needed.

Onwards and upwards...

Think a bit of complacency set in today. Thought we could just turn up and roll them over, but it doesn't work like that. A few players just didn't look up for it.

No surprise at the lack of chances. Grant gives us absolutely no threat from LWB, so hopefully John or Hart can get some minutes in next week. Jesse has been brilliant this season, but was very poor today. Him and Sang looked very disjointed together. Richards and Chizzy also offered nowt.

We're still top and we play bottom of the league next week. Praying that loss gives us a kick up the arse and we get our heads back on and put it right against Morecambe.

I have to say that Chislett has been a dissapointment this season thus far. We all know he has ability. Seems like the hussle and bussle of League Two just isn't for him at times.

Which is kind of the point I’m making. The issue is, we’ve created what, one chance, in 90+ mins. So you need a 100% conversion rate, otherwise you’re a ‘nil’ and always likely to be at the mercy of a poor decision or lapse in concentration, and it sounds like we had both.

Versus Harrogate, for all the territory we didn’t really work their goalie and scored off a set play. And I think that why people will be moaning tonight. Scrape a 1-0 win and Moore has delivered a tactical masterclass. Instead we miss, switch off, and it’s a 1-0 defeat, and the narrative becomes we’ve played rubbish and not created anything.

I felt the subs were wrong today, but arguably I thought the same vs MK Dons and Accie. And we all know what players like Williams and Nolan can do.

BBC stats state that we didn't have a single shot on target. Not a great return for 111 mins of play! Can't knock DM because of our league position, but why is he so cautious in set up and tactics? I think most of us would like a more direct and attack-minded mentality.

Does make you think what they have to do to get game time.

They score goals when they play and for me they should both be starting every game # it's not rocket science 😁👍

That "one" team presumably mean Gillingham?

Looked like it.

It may be my eyes but did their goal go in off Jessie, not blaming Jessie if it did. Their two forwards nearly got in each other's way and I couldn't tell live if their goalscorer got a clean touch on the ball.

Sort of a pointless stat there, as a 40 yarder from Sang might have trickled into the goalkeeper's gloves would be a 'shot on target' but Stockley puts it wide from 5 yards. Penalty not given. Shorrock trying an overhead kick with Croasdale better placed. Chislett slide tackling an open Tolaj in the last minute.

The 'cautious set up has us 3 points clear at the top, with the best winning run in English football before today.

Let's not decide we're actually not keen on that approach because we've lost a narrow game.

Like me and others, you would think they would be starting more games.  But DM and Co seem to think other things.  That is what I mean what do they have to do to get game time to show what they can do.

Hopefully we will see them in the tin pot cup game and show what they can do.

True about him not having a plan b when his plan a isn't working

Does he have a Plan A  ? 🤔😆

I like to defend Port Vale fans when they justifiably moan, but I'm not sure there'd be this many forums as critical and demanding refunds when their side were 3 points clear and coming off the best run in the country. Go to the pub!

Sat top of the league with a 3 point cushion suggests he does. It’s not rocket science 🙄 knew you’d be balls deep into the forum when we lost 👋🏻

Haven’t enjoyed this game at all. Feels like we set up for a draw from the start, and now it’s backfired.

But that's how we set up most games ,mate

The manager is happy to  keep it tight

and then try nick the odd goal here and there

Chislett has always ran his socks off but not so this season. Doesn’t look happy.
