Gillingham v Port Vale match thread - Sat November 9th

Featured Replies

Thoughts on a long away day and my first visit to Gillingham. The away turnstiles are impossible to find. Had to walk almost an entire circuit of the ground and ask several people and the search to get to get in was akin to entering North Korea. The game was rubbish and should have been a goalless draw because that was all it deserved. The challenge on Curtis looked a penalty from my seat and I've seen nothing yet to change my mind. The subs worked for them and not for us. The huge number 9 they brought on caused more trouble for us than the previous 75 minutes and Hackford was non existent when he came on. We lost it happens and was almost predictable when you're four hours from home. And finally I walked underneath the Brian Moore Stand on the way out and it should be nominated as a modern Wonder of the World. A Scaffolder somewhere has retired on it's construction.

Shouldn't hide behind the  penalty .

This Port Vale should not need penalties to beat the likes of Gillingham

Overall we played as poorly as Barrow away after a weeks rest

Very concerning that as the players should have being at full pelt.

I felt they were leggy and tired or maybe they were peeved at going out the cup he week prior ,with resting better players and they were furious about it .

Stockleywas not his usual self at all .

A strange performance from PVFC overall but still good enough get a point but not to be

We dont have a devine right to beat anybody and Gillingham despite poor form are a capable side, one of the best defensive sides in the league.

Whilst yes we have a mega budget for the level we shouldn't be arrogant about "beating the likes of" anyone the same way we used to give teams stick for saying it about us in League One.

We have to earn every win be it Notts County, Gillingham or Morecambe and each in their own right will pose us a stern test.

At the moment Saturday was an off day performance wise nothing more or less... if we have this same conversation next Monday after another off day then it would start to become a concern of course but we will get games like that over the season, key is they need to be few and far between (thankfully so far thats been the case).

Never said we did I said I'm surprised this Port Vale who are as good a squad as I've seen for many a year, at full pelt and playing well should not needa penalty decision to win a game v a very methodical opposition who created diddly squat.

DM is no mug and I am sure he will hold a detailed inquest in what went wrong. We most certainty need a response at Morecambe so lets hope we are all at 100% this is not going to be an easy game.

I think we've reached a pivotal point in the season.  There's been a few seasons recently, even going back to Askey, where we've started brightly and then get to around the 30 point mark and, hells bells, the wheels fall off and we're still in the 30's COME FEBRUARY!

And there's some tricky fixtures to come.

Stockley should have buried that chance.

Yep he should have put it away but it wasn't as easy as it looked, which is the point I made.

Massive stage in the season I agree. Huge games against Crewe and Walsall to come. Away games at Morecambe Cheltenham and Bromley where you’d be looking at getting maximum points then Carlisle at home before Xmas. If we come to Boxing Day with being top then we’ve had a fantastic half a season.

It was the one where Shorrock tried the overhead kick and it screwed wide of the post.  Croasdale was facing the goal, Shorrock wasn't.   All water under the bridge now.  😞

Yeah I seen it back & saw which one you meant. The incident I mentioned was even more of a chance 😂 and yep that’s true mate
