Gillingham v Port Vale match thread - Sat November 9th

Featured Replies

Best part of the game today….Jack Shorrock came over and signed both my daughters super vale away kit. Nice touch….

next best thing….my eldest singing Connor Hall to Wonderwall on the way home. He had a decent game

2 things that were the worst part

1. Outside of our control….the ref missed so many decisions….likely penalty/and potential penalty aswell, numerous free kicks, a couple of Gills blatant offsides. To be fair he missed some for Gills too. He was having a bad day at the office.

2. within our control. Why oh why did that so called supporter give Ripley a mouthful at full time. He should be ashamed of himself. People make mistakes. Professional sports people make mistakes. Ripley was unlucky with that potential slight deflection but otherwise had a solid game. I’ve been critical of Ripley in the past but only to say drop him to the bench. I feel ashamed to have to witnessed one of our hard working and passionate players be abused by such moronic behaviour from a fairly mature fella who clearly couldn’t regulate his hatred in front of fans and team.

I think we made more noise today than the home crowd. Gills were silent until they scored.
Jesse was a bit wayward with his passes. Chizzy had a negative impact on the game when he started the 2nd half. It could’ve gone either way today but you can sense that Garrity missing had an impact as croasdale didn’t get much protection or to play off.

thought the ref was insane

Watching on tv you see a different perspective.
Ref wasn’t “insane”. And Jesse wasn’t a bit wayward with passes.

Ref was bad. Jesse was god damn awful.

As I was working all day I didn't get the result until turned 5 o clock. As many have said a defeat was going to come along at some point, problem today apparently and very predictably the result was not as bad as the performance, which sounded absolutely abysmal. Even the gaffer sounds like he reverted to his shambolic team selection and tactics of last season. I have been to Gillingham quite a few times over the years and off the top of my head I cannot remember us winning any of them. I honestly don't know what happens to produce such a **as poor all round performance, did the coach run over a black cat on the way to the match?

I am particularly surprised and disappointed at what I am reading about big Jesse, he has been my player of the season up to now so what the heck could have happened to make him regress like that?

I don't think today should just be written off and move on. Lessons have to be learned to prevent a similar disaster happening again.

Keep the faith, and your nerve.

Disaster!!???

Hang on. Where was I negative?
Inbetween positive and negative isn’t their realism?

Ive stated it’s a one off. And I’m happy overall.
But let your eyes see what they see instead of “trying to be positive”.

Debrah was awful and the ref wasn’t insane, as you put it.

When I listen to the lads on the pod I’d fully expect the ref to get a better mark than Jesse.
He was dreadful.

Credit where it’s due when players are good but when players have shockers like that today, they have to be called out.
And I’m sure he has the character to go again next week and put in a great performance.

Was at the game today as a Vale family down south!

Everything has been said thus far on the thread and I feel it was just a bad day at the office so let's move on!

I want to highlight the extremely over zealous searching prior to entry.

We arrived very early to meet my brother and family as we needed to locate our tickets sent down on the bus.

We stood and chatted to the stewards whilst waiting for the tickets to be delivered to the away end having good banter and friendly chats with other Vale die hards.

Stuck down a dirty cul-de-sac in a house arse end of Gillingham that made Burslem look like Barbados we were then subjected to the most ridiculous search and pat down/assault I've ever known!

We were 6 people, 4 adults with 2 girls under 10.
My missus was made to empty her purse, got aggressively patted down and just made to feel uncomfortable.

The guy that searched me was far too aggressive also. Literally grabbed the meat and two veg!!!!

Shocking way to be treated bearing in mind we had stood there since probably 1.15pm and chatted endlessly with these guys in a more than friendly way! Rant over.

As for the absolute tool Vale fan at the end shouting in Ripleys face calling him a when he only came over to applaud the fans for travelling down. Ripley did well not to land one on him!
The search was ridiculous. I've never had to turn my pockets out before for a football match. Surprised he didn't do a cavity search

This sort of behaviour by stewards annoys me intensely. As I said earlier, we were in the home seats and on entrance to the ground the steward took a very cursory look in my handbag and let me in. The way away fans are treated at some grounds is totally discriminatory. If you said blacks will get body searched but whites won’t there would be hell up. It is, however, perfectly acceptable to say those from Burslem will be subject to invasive body searches but those from Gillingham won’t.

You couldn't put 2 mins highlights of that game on .

We beat ourselves simple as that.

The ref was on there side blatant push on Grant before there throw in,that's a free kick for us every day of the week for winner, and why would Curtis dive there first half but ultimately if Stockley scores like a player of his quality should do we drag them out and exploit them more .

523 away support is tremendous .

Cannot fault the away following .

Henegan Hall Debrah apart from that one moment of switching off , ,one lapse of concentration were defensively sound Debrah is so uncomfortable on ball It's untrue his passing left a lot to be desired .

There's no way on this earth they deserved win ,Ripley had nowt do all game is kicking was poor today but no need for fan have a go at him if true, hardly is fault we lost ,one lapse of concentration and a ref who shouldn't really ref another game in my opinion.

All opinions of course, Debs had a stinker today & he’ll know that. Barring this he’s been pretty good this season & more consistent. I can’t think of many who didn’t have a bad game this afternoon. Croasdale who rarely has a bad game stood out for me alongside Curtis & Sang did ok at times but some of his passing let him down. Doesn’t look out of place in that role, Stockley worked hard as always but has to score that chance. Just a bad day all round which we move on from now. Rest the majority if not all of them for Wrexham. No doubt Paton & Tolaj will start, as for some reason the gaffer likes Hackford. I’m sure there’s an appearance clause in his loan contract because he plays a part in pretty much every game & looks so far out of his depth at times.

Im all for banter.
Those who know me will know that.
I just don’t take unwanted “banter” from idiots.

If you had anything constructive to say to the comment then say it, rather than being a 12 year old and posting gifs.

Enjoy your night and if Valliaant has a go at you again, don’t come crying to me in inbox…… “youth”.

OK, I tried.

Off you go now for a little rest.

Hope you soon feel better.

They had an off day. Most of them were sh!t. We're unbeaten in about 2 months aren't we, it happens.

All I'll say is this. Connor Grant I really don't ever want to see put a vale shirt on again. The fact that him and to a lesser extent Heneghan are getting a game but Smithy can't make the bench is criminal.

Edit: add to the above, Paton not getting a game by hackford is? Bizarre

Heneghan was fine what are you on about? He’s far more aerially dominant than Smith so for me if I’m picking someone in the middle I’m going Heneghan every time.

I would say it's because away fans use pyro and drugs disproportionately more than home fans. The same happens at Vale. Never really bothered me, but I've not got a 9 bar in my handbag.

They asked to search my wallet, so assume it’s for drugs and stuff. Either that or the world’s smallest pyro.
