To be honest, I only looked him up after someone mentioned him earlier on this thread.

But now googling clubs linked, yes it would be highly unlikely.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Forget keeping just your fingers crossed, I’ve literally crossed everything in the hope we get at least one decent striker. If we get two more it will be like Xmas has come early.

Adam Yates explained how it works on the podcast. Low basic wage, bonuses when you actually play.

So that's OK to break through as a young player. But by Wilson's age he will have clocked up assets and liabilities in his life that require servicing by reasonable income. He may also have plans with future costs attached. So he needs a stable income at his expected level.

In my career, in my self employed phases, I have taken on contracts that paid by the hour worked or for the output created. But I was wealthy enough in later career to do that and very confident of earning what I expected. Football appearances aren't like that. For example women players are three times as likely to get ACL injuries and no one knows why.

Jake Caprice on trial at Burton, ive always liked the look of him whenever we've played Exeter.

He's quality. Has always done well against us. Athletic. Burton don't look like they're pissing about this season. Last season the kick up the arse they needed maybe.

Josh Davison scored 9 in 21 when on loan at swindon and was always a threat v us

I thought he was an absolute camel. Should have put the Swindon game out of sight in the first leg, but couldn't hit a barn door. Also missed in the shoot out.

" ...to assess James and how he would work within the new set up"

and

"This allows James to get vital training and increase his fitness levels whilst he is currently without a club."

The former implies we're considering signing him but the latter implies we're just helping him out?

"To get vital training" however dispels that rumour about him being injured until Christmas! Again I love him as a player so if he can get 100% fit I'd like to see him back.

"gives the club the opportunity to assess James and how he would work within the new set up"

What do they need to aseess? They've not been able to replace him and theyve recuited to the same formation so it seems a redundant point. If he's fit then I'm guessing hes going to sign as hes one of the better options left available.

Comes across a bit like covering ahead of him resigning, with rumours everywhere on it they had to say something (makes it easier if he plays v Grimsby or is in the training videos).

If it’s not likely why would we pay to take him first and foremost and have him within the dynamic on what is a team building exercise largely.

If he’s come back to say ok let’s re look at the deal you offered then usually a u turn by one party can be seen negatively so this dampens it down.

In my opinion you don't help potential opponents who will score against you. But on the otherhand he has a lot of respect in the bank at Port Vale.

It looks more likely now that something can be worked out. Both parties have tried separation!

I also think that whilst Wilson is not prolific, and more a forward than a striker, his skill level is well above most of the strikers we have had to choose from in the current window.

We are back to the question - in a better team can more be got out of him?

I may have rationalised against his staying, but there is a sort of warm feeling thar he may now stay.
