Is this, the currently injured Walker that you are talking about?

Can I refer you all to the post at the top of this page in which I admit I had the wrong Walker. Seems I’m not the only one who doesn’t read the whole thread!!!

Jake Taylor was good but not great for us the first time we had him and was not good enough to get in our first team the second when we had a fully fit midfield. Don’t see what you say about his distribution? His best attribute was as a goal scoring midfielder, fitting in as a number 9, which is exactly where Wilson should be playing. DC doesn’t play a number 9 role hence why the goals didn’t come for Taylor when he joined the 2nd time and why he couldn’t make the team.
Taylor is a decent number 9 but very average center midfielder and you cannot put him anywhere near the same category as the likes of Earl, Taylor, Bogie, Cummins or Sonner who all did the business for us consistently in a higher division.

Been injured.....read the posts.

So we go and get an injury prone midfielder to support our injury prone forward?

Both good players btw.

Hopefully the injuries we have had, will, after a longer end of season, start to reduce on the retained players.

Unfortunately we cannot replace a Foden with a Grealish.

Midfield misses an Earle/Taylor/Talbot type and Jake is not a Ray Walker/Bogie standard yet.

Re James, hopefully he stays, great player at our level and above. probably needs some new boots to stop his legs/feet being injuredimage.jpeg.a3e9c9f28193bd858245e27b6c9ce519.jpeg

About opinions Phil but to add weight to my opinion, Vale tried to buy him during his 1st period at Vale due to his success and excellent performances at Vale, Forest took him back in the summer of 2020 and looked at him closely to play in the Championship before loaning him out again, when Forest did agree to sell him in Jan 2021 they reputedly added a large sell on clause in his contract. In short he was excellent at Vale during his first spell and OVF reflected that if my memory serves me right.

Unfortunately for JT he was bought in before DC was appointed manager and he played a few games and scored away at Tranmere. He obviously wasn't a DC type midfield player which together with injuries resulted in him not playing and being sold. IMHO JT made a big difference when DC had to play him during the end of season games and who knows if JT had been fit and had played most of the promo season for Vale, the club may have gone up automatically.

Jake Taylor's best attribute is as an all-round attacking midfield player, not a "No9". He has excellent distribution both long and short, looks to move the ball forward and quickly, is mobile, tackles well and has good positional sense, is always looking to get on the ball (Something sadly missing at Vale these last two games) and take responsibility, runs well with the ball at his feet and can score from outside and inside the area etc.

He literally can do everything that the current central midfield players can do and more.

All about opinions Phil but if you want confirmation of anything I've posted above just take a look at the highlight videos on Youtube. To see examples of JT's distribution just take a look at the Wembley play-off game and the FA Cup win at Cheltenham.

I would also add when JT did get a chance under DC he was generally played as a deeper/holding type midfield player rather than in the role of an attacking midfield player which is best position and how John Askey played him.

I'm not advocating signing Jake Taylor again because it looks like he is injury prone sadly.

I hope James Wilson stays.

That looks a decent place much better that NHS(not disrespecting NHS) .But  this  I expect Private funded by the club.Which is  good for both the club and which ever player.

James Wilson should be retained at all costs. The part he played last season in getting promotion was IMMENSE.  Hes a breath of fresh air when on form.  He gets fouled such a lot with nasty fouls unfortunately. We dont have another player of this quality in the squad so certainly he is an entertainer and we need that for sure.

Sadly Clarke always hauls him off. He’s the one the opposition are scared of not some of our other “strikers”.

Get rid, we can use his wages to get a player who can stay fit for a full season, not just a few games(however good he is).
