Match Thread: Shrewsbury Town v Port Vale

Local Derby "BIG GAME ATMOSPHERE",  Shrewsbury are an incredible run currently, but reality says if Vale can believe and actually find the net, they can take something from this game. Vale have a good record at Shrewsbury in the league and although there was a 30 year break between 1978-2008 between renewing rivalries in latter years matches at Shrewsbury have been very close. The last three games at Shrewsbury have finished all square last game at Shrewsbury was November 26th 2016 funnily enough Nathan Smith is the only survivor from that game and Shrewsbury had ex Vale favourite Louis Dodds along with Brentford goal machine Ivan Toney. Vale were backed by 1,300 fans. Last Vale league win at Shrewsbury October 10th 2009 goalscorer centre back John McCombe.

Backed by a sellout allocation of 1,644 shouldn't this be the day that Vale get back on track?

Both clubs have had dodgy refereeing decisions given against them this season. I wasn't at the Accrington game on Tuesday night and I can perfectly upstand the fans thrustration. As I myself am a grassroots football referee and that is why I see very few professional football matches during a regular season. But for only the second time this season I am watching the Vale on a Saturday afternoon and I have been at Shrewsbury for Vale encounters every time they have met since 2008.

Checkout the referee Thomas Parsons he has refereed Vale's away match at Barnsley on September 13th resulting in a draw. He also refereed Shrewsbury's victory at Fleetwood. But according to reports on social media he has also angered some managers in some of his matches. Ok I know at a different level it is no easy life being a referee.

Some good games v the Shrews and some absolute dross over the years .
Sounds like Matty Taylor and Harrison back tomoz (be it on the bench or starting).
I hope our fans are bang up for it everytime l have attended there they have .
I believe we can win you think if your a midfield player and you passing to your fellow midfield player playing up front knowing that he is not a natural centre forward and if he was he would have scored the second a minute after the first v Derby he would have made the goalie work in first half v Accrington .
There will be opportunities for Vale score let's hope they take them I think they will last away should have been a 2-0 win with Worrall and Holden netting .

We’ve been dog <ovf censored> for most of the season, period and will either totally capitulate or snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, got no confidence or belief that this squad can man up or collectively put in a shift. Pay as you play would see most of them out of work, bottom 4 is vey much achievable which seems the clubs aim !!!!!

I’d say inconstant rather than dog chit.  Actually played well in a good number of games but not won some of these.  No argument that we’ve been poor in too many games, even if the odd one of these we’ve actually won.  That’s football I guess.  Playing with no strikers is a valid excuse but in fairness players other than strikers have missed some glorious opportunities all season.

Sorry but lame excuse- playing with no strikers, yet having the opportunity during the January TF window to bring in cover- really !!!! and OTHER players missing chances is simply a lack of quality and nothing else. We and the club knows we’re riddled with lame ducks  and players who are not league 1 standard and need moving on !!!!

They can't help the strikers being injured, and if we are as bad as you say so lacking in quality how come we were 10th in a competitive league at Christmas.

Or 10 points from the bottom 4, a long way to go, a long run of poor performances, “you  can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time” so don’t kid yourself the poor attendance on Tuesday night speaks volumes !!!!!!!!

I think we’ll definitely get something tomorrow as long as we don’t concede early. I can also see Taylor notching some goals that get us points along the way for the remainder. We were far the better side in the league fixture and we can do the same again.
