Where do we go from here?

Given the recourses the current academy has it would have been a lot more. We have lost many coaches, and scouts over the years due to not paying the going rate and they were replaced by a poorer versions. It is impossible to ask that question but the current crop Plant, Mcdermott,  Walter and Sharrock were all here when Sevvy was here. If we produce players under the current regime i will be more than happy UTV.

Doesn’t mean he wasn’t replaced by an impressive individual.

The original point made was that all these people has left… which had a negative connotation given the trope being thrown around that we had money problems.

Im simply balancing that with the fact that there have been replacements where needed… and in the case of our academy manager, a very impressive one.

He does talk well I will give you that.

Actually we do. Smurfwaite thought it was his money and his club but we soon starved him out.
The club is nothing without the fans and the budget is dictated by our money, despite the figures put in by Carol.

It is true that Carol has ensured all the money goes back into the club, but we know over the years it is the fans who kept this club going.
Without the Shanahans we would not exist.

We could have gates of 30k a week without a good owner it means nowt

A win tonight and it will be forgotten, for a few days. People need to live in the real world. Money is tight, so employees who we, or the owners pay for need to be professional. Some better themselves, others may not. Does not mean, that they wont, as they move on.

We have had cuts in staff before, rebalancing the club as a Lg 1 team is good.

Sometimes hard decisions are made good or bad?

It is not my money so all I can say is thanks to Carol and Kevin.

We are not alone every one that follows any sport will see ridiculous expectations.

Thing is we are all Vale and thats the thing 🙂

Simply not true. If no fans turned up, there would be no club. With the best will in the world Carol and Kevin as doing this for the fans, as fans. However an owner depends on fans to keep the club going as Smurfwaite and Bratt found to their cost.

If we had gates of 30k right now, even with Smurfwaite in charge, we’d be at least a championship club. Fans matter more than owners. See Mike Ashley, Glazers, Oyston etc.

However no way would a Smurfwaite run club get 30k fans, even if Willy Wonka ran Vale giving out golden tickets we wouldn’t pull 30k.

I’d say good ownership as we are seeing has helped raise gates but I would say you can have bad ownership and still keep going. You can never not have no fans.

The problem is everyone is supposedly "in the know" and lots of various rumours float, but as talk goes the rumour develops like Chinese whispers.

There is clearly some financial issues but financial issues can range from a cash flow problem to administration/liquidation and anything in between.

As said most staff have been replaced, we've just had Matt Hancock come in who we've taken from another club and is highly rated and we have just signed a striker on loan who I am sure isn't here for free be it a loan fee or wages.

The talk about the food order at the weekend is worrying but it may be they had enough, guess we will find out tonight if we have any in!

Hopefully the trimming and restructuring are enough to address the problem longer term, one would assume if the Donaldson deal does indeed exist that if its been rejected we are still relatively ok and Carol would accept any offer if the situation was so bad as administration was likely (she'd get nothing if it went that way).

Need to focus on the 50 point mark and hopefully come the summer things will be more stable.

After a tremendous promotion season last year against the odds it seemed when DC had such a terrible time the club needs time to adjust to L1. The wonderful season in L2 has been replaced with the cold hard reality of L1.

At the beginning of the season our aim should have been survival, then, consolodate and build a team over the next couple of season to push for promotion; did we get ahead of ourselves before Xmas, yes I think we did.

We obviously need a new pitch and have done for many a season, we will need to build the team in readiness for a promotion push and to replace some out of contract players.

With the cost of living crisis and promotion last year trimming the budget in certain area's to benefit others is what every company does, even more so now these days. I have more confidence in our current owners than in any over the past 30 odd years.

Where do we go from here - we take stock, we survive in L1 and we push on under the astute ownership that ensures PVFC is here for the now and for the future.

The club was at risk of going out of business under the previous owner and / or crashing down the league pyramid. We are now in League 1, with an improved stadium, survived Covid-19 and have ambitious plans. At considerable personal cost, the current owners have helped the club back to as high a level it can hope to achieve. But the Chamionship ready ambition requires so much more ultimately financially to be sustainable. We are now pushing up against the next level of clubs including Derby, Ipswich, Bolton etc. We need to develop the clout they have in support and finances to progress sustainably. Plymouth may be an example of how to do that.

yeah definitely, Wycombe themselves are probably a good template.

2 Play off Campaigns and challenging again, the other season in the Championship. Small club, smaller than us yet consistently punching above their weight... to note in their first season back (the year before promotion) they finished 17th with 21 defeats but they stuck with it.
