I thought this was a really good analysis. It is consistent with what I observe as a fan. It is more than just the manager; the whole sports management of the club is massively improved from the days of Askey and Aspin. They had to cope with very little.

I noted that Wycombe has a player wage budget at least £1 million bigger than ours. Yet we were a better side on Tuesday. That's a complex comparison. Loan player's agreements are uncertain. We invest in and risk / give opportunities to more young players? But I was left wondering how Wycombe's finances are sustainable?

TV Money from the Championship probably but would imagine they will cut their cloth as deals expire from that period (probably this summer for instance)

Wycombe are a small club. They've only been in the 92 for about 30 years.

The reported £7-8m they'd have recieved in EFL funding for their one season in the Championship will have very much helped though. They'd have made a few quid off the play off final last season too.

Example chart from a football finance blogger of solidarity payment income in recent seasons -

Didn’t think you got parachute payments when dropping out of the Championship?

I mean just from the TV money for that season which would be huge compared to L1.

Also (sadly for their fans) they didn’t get to really experience their only season that high due to Covid but imagine they got a bigger financial package being at that level as a Championship club despite not having maybe the loss in revenue the majority of clubs at that level would have had due to lower gates and a smaller infrastructure.

Last season they made some bigger signings probably on the back of that with the aim to bounce back quickly but that didn’t quite happen so you’d expect failure to go up this season (which doesn’t look likely) would see them need to trim the budget further. Their signings this year and far less impressive than last on the back of that relegation and the money in the coffers.

Got to appreciate what we have got in Clarke! If we punch above our weight this season, I'm sure he'll come up on bigger clubs radars!

When he was at Bristol Rovers, the mad bloke who owned Leeds at the time wanted DC. I think that Darrell spoke with them, but (thankfully) decided against it.  You've got a real gem there, looking forward to seeing him back at The Mem on 10th December.
