You can do all the conditioning work in the world but I can’t help but think you need proper sharpness and match fitness.

I really hope the way we’re approaching it pays off but it feels counter intuitive.

Totally agree! 

But I do believe, reading what DC has said and the official post the other day, that things aren't going 100% according to plan. 

The one thing that really does my head in, is letting Covolan go without having a replacement signed up. Having worked in football for 20 years, the order they did that in, is just totally backwards to me. I really just don't get it. And it makes me think, they're looking for a back up keeper, and not a first choice. But hey, hopefully I'm proved wrong very soon 🙂

Covolan wants to be first choice at Chesterfield and to get there he needs to be playing in pre season. Once the decision was made to let him leave the club they took the most viable way to do that. There is confidence that there are goalies out there to come in and so there is no crisis.

Not saying there's a crisis at all. Just saying the order is backwards. Covolan was/is under contract at Vale, that's the only thing he had to relate to.

No room for sentiment, he was Vales player, so what he wanted to do at Chesterfield, has nothing to do with Vale.

Obviously. But if we don't get a new keeper in before the end of August, as DC has said would be fine, and Aiden Stone (My Lord), God forbid, picks up an injury, do you think DC would rather have Covolan as an option, or have to hit the panic button?

Point being: even if he's not in their plans, he's still better than the alternative at hand at this moment.
