Match Thread - Port Vale v Tranmere

Morecambe despite shithousing a win looked a far poorer side, as did Yeovil who are in even worse free fall so there is hope. 14 games 3 wins and four draws probably does it and is achievable but we need confidence quickly.

Worryingly they still beat us and that's the problem. We haven't scored a league goal since New Years day, last league win Nov 27th. Other teams below us getting wins/draws. I cant see where the next goal is coming from, never mind the next win.

For what it's worth I'd go

Brown

Gibbons Howkins Smith Montano

Whitfield Manny Kay Hannant

Harris Pope

No Miller for me I just dont trust the bloke. Cost us last time he played with that stupid sending off, the lads to much of a liability to start I'm afraid. Harris did ok for me yesterday he put Hannant through for the Peno and he set up Hannant for his shot early in the 2nd half that I think clipped the post. He dropped deep a few times and picked up some space so I'd start with him again. Howkins has to come in for Rawlinson, or Legge if hes allowed to play. Clarke's way off the pace at the moment. Thought Crookes was poor aswell. Whitfield and Manny to come in if he's fit if not Conlon instead. A change of personal and formation at home has to happen if we want to score a goal let alone win a match!

Agree with that side except would play Miller.

If we were going to beat anyone at home then it was Morecambe. I will be at the Tranmere game with zero expectations. I have been saying all season we are too good to go down, then I was saying there are 2 teams worse than us. I now believe neither. Sincerely hope I am wrong but its beginning to look a lot like relegation. Team selection is just shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic.

The problem is Askey isn’t even shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic he is playing the same players with the same tactics and expecting a different result.

We might as well have given Pugh the job and saved his wage.

Anyone remember Andy Porter coming out of retirement to sit on the bench against Tranmere? He ended up playing from about the fifteenth minute or something and inspired us to win the game.

Sign Goober up and throw him straight in!

I do, we hammered them if I recall. Ended 3-1 but wasn’t it 3-0 quite early into the game?

T

Turners got the best goals to games ratio of ANY other player at the club, and that’s first team games, not including reserve games.

That’s because he isn’t good enough to play many games.

I could play one game and score and be the best player in the club.

How many goals did he score at Tamworth?

Don’t know where you get your figures from but he,s scored 3 goals in 33 appearances.

Ashley just needs to make sure the players don't go missing for most of the second half. It always seems to be the same regardless of the manager:

- we start ok, even if we are rather toothless up front (and on Saturday we seemed much more attacking/pressing than under Aspin which is good)

- go in at half time looking promising

- come out and do nothing

- concede a goal in about the 60th minute then turn into a lazy pub team who can barely string two passes together

- wake up in about the 89th minute and go at them hammer and tongs (as can be seen from the number of last minute equalisers we score)

Askey needs to get the players out of that mindset

The changes Morecambe made at half time were inevitable, who in their right would continue to give our right hand side so much space and time. So when things like that happen Askey also needs to ensure that when things aren’t working and the opposition is killing our space that he is proactive with the changes and not wait until the 70th minute to change it up.

If Conlon is the answer then god help us. Lightweight and had maybe 2 good games all season.

I thought he started off well when he first came in to the side and then fizzled out, he looked knackered. That’s why joyce and Kay came back in I think. I don’t believe we’ll be seeing the 2 new loan centre mids just yet. But of course seeing as Kay and Joyce aren’t popular that makes the new loan signings better players in some fans eyes by virtue of the fact they’ve not played yet.
