John Rudge will know how Aspo will be feeling

I'd forgotten about this game. Sometimes a thumping defeat is better than a narrow defeat as it will have forced issues within the team to be aired and brought out into the open. Hopefully everyone will be hurting and determined to put things right on the pitch over the coming games.

Hopefully Aspin will have learnt valuable lessons about basic team selections and logical decision making.

February 28, 1987

3rd Division

Port Vale 1 : 6 Blackpool

League placing end of season

9th Blackpool

12th Port Vale

I seem to recall that we didn't actually play too badly in this game but that they scored with almost every shot that they had. Did Paul Stewart grab 4 that day too. Also noticed that Blackpools previous result was a 6-1 hammering of Bristol Rovers.

Anyone have an idea if Rudge has any input/influence on Aspo's team selection and tactics. Aspo should at least be "Using" Rudge as a sounding board and take note of his views.

Aspin to stubborn to do that. Rather play the favourites in positions they are not used to. Proof was yesterday.

One month after that catastrophic defeat we went to Fulham and won 6-0. Things can change quickly. We should not panic. Neither should we allow Neil Aspin's communication skills with the media to skew our judgement too much. The most successful English club manager of all time was not a good performer with the media. In case you are wondering who, I am referring to Bob Paisley. So we should consider events in history to have relevance today because the nature of people does not change. However, Neil Aspin needs to learn, his tactics and selection decisions need to improve.
