I think Smith did need a rest, he's played 90 odd consecutive games in the last 2 seasons and 40 for Torquay the season before. You don't usually see young players play so much and I think the break will do him good.

 

The team selected looks decent if we can cut out mistakes at the back. My only worry is if we're struggling to create chances and not having any alternative wingers (as I've been banging on about for months).

 

Morais and Greg-Cox are decent out wide and Palmer is a giant centre forward which is why we've gone for Legge and Rawlinson at 6'3 each.

Looks a decent sized back 4 with Legge and Rawlinson.

 

I imagine that's with 6'5 Ollie Palmer in mind for them.

I wouldn’t say he’s still learning his trade because he’s been a manager for 13 years albeit in the non league. He’s only a little bit older than Micky Adams.

 

I still have faith in him and some of his signings so far have turned out to be okay so far. I do, however, have some doubts surrounding his team selections and tactics which is based on half a season last year and the few games this year. My main problems are that we never really start well or look like we have a specific way that we are set up to play.

 

Although experienced non league we are his first league job, so hes still learning and will be a football manager for a minimum of ten more years.

 

He will only improve given more time to develop, UTV!!

What’s surprised me is the lack of tempo from Crawley. If I was their manager I’d be lumping it on our left back and also having the winger run at him. So far nothing from them.

He played 44 times last season so I think he's just been unfortunate with injuries in his Vale career so far.

Decent half from Vale, defense looks good, very mature start from Mitchell Clark.

 

Miller is a live wire and worth the entrance fee just to watch him.

Clark looks a decent player. Caught out a couple of times but has been helped out by Rawlinson who has had a good first half. Him and Legge have won everything in the air.

 

Crawley got back into it towards the end of that half. We need to up the tempo and get the 2nd goal.

Hope the young lad lasts, looked like he was getting tired as that half wore on. This is a big jump from u23 football and he’s acquitted himself really well so far.

Fancy these to improve at the start of the second so we need be wide awake from the off not like on Tuesday. Very impressed by the new lad. Rawlinson looks a very good centre half which just makes it even more crazy as to why he’s been stuck at right back. Much better so far.
