Match Thread - Port Vale v Crawley Town

Im one of those that I didn’t think there was anything wrong with Dodds display. He put a shift in like everyone else and helped get us over the line. They all have their flaws and all make mistakes in a game, whether it be being caught offside, too greedy, some poor passing, some poor positioning. If they went through every game being perfect then they wouldn’t be here. We can pick holes in all their games, but whilst we didn’t manage to find any attacking rythym we showed good character to see the game through. 100% from everybody, players showing some fight for the shirt, that’s what I’m happy to see.

Great post sensible and balanced.

Dodds did ok after he came on. He set up Pope with a lovely reverse pass and tracked back and put his foot in when he could. He was better than Quigley and Kay, who were both completely ineffective, save for the running battle with Sir Vincelot.

The problem was central midfield and once Oyeleke went off we were abysmal. No movement and no energy and no physicality. Kay was hugely disappointing and probably didn't need to get his shirt washed afterwards. Worrall and Hannant disappeared in the second half. Joyce, who was ok, was trying to do the work of two players and we just got overrun as they had a spare man in the middle of the park.

Funny though how Dodds gets singled out for his display but hardly anyone has brought up Gibbons' poor passing, or Kay's statuesque cameo, or Worrall's loss of form or even Miller's very poor performance, with his constant failure to understand the offside rule and inability to pass the ball to better placed team-mates because he wanted a shot. But, hey, don't let the facts get in the way of slating Dodds who wasn't even on the pitch for that long.

Millers very poor performance? He plays on the last shoulder so going to get offside occasionally. His teammates were too slow releasing the ball!
