Australian cricket cheats

Would that “sine die” ban have included Atherton then ? As I have said in previous posts, every test playing nation does it. I agree it’s wrong, but Smith has “only” done what the England captain did 20 odd years ago. It’s wrong, but nothing new.

Yes, I would include Atherton in the same category and have banned him. Perhaps had earlier cheats been banned for life, then others may not have followed in their footsteps... although sadly, there will always be those who think the risk is worth taking and that they will get away with it.

I think the fact that they admitted planning the whole thing and it was agreed amongst a leadership group didn't help their cause.

Listening to Bancroft today,he seems to be more worried about losing his No.3 batting spot?

Just been watching the Aussie Cry-athon on Sky. Unite them with Kim Hughes and we’ll have the full set. Tough guys those Aussie’s you know !

Please RR, do not 'unite' Kim's situation with the other cheats mentioned above because he was a victim of his own conscience and honesty compared to them. Kim was 'stabbed in the back' by so called heroes of Cricket Australia.

BANG ON ! Cricket think they are the high and mighty where fair play is concerned. But in reality they cheat as much as any sport. These cricketing crocodile tears really get on my nadgers. Cricket is as corrupt as any other sport. These Grammar School sport attitudes like cricket and rugby union really annoy me, and that’s from a Grammar School boy. What would headmaster Mr Williams have thought of this ? Nothing, as long as you were in the XV for Saturday morning’s match against St Joseph’s.And there is the problem. Everyone waxes lyrical about fair play, but a blind eye is conveniently turned to misdemeanours whilst success is presented.

But my point was also that football doesn’t do anything about its cheats and cricket banned these players for a year who have been shamed to tears. Cheating in football has become more normalised and accepted.

I whole heartedly agree with your comments. The only point I would add is that in football “punishments” are available to the ref such as bookings which with accumulative effect can lead to bans. But yes, I do agree with your points.

Spot on, it's refreshing to see a governing body stamp something out with such conviction. They had no other choice in my opinion.

I don't agree that diving is the same level. That would be akin to bouncing the ball into the rough for me.

Was it only me that got a warm glow of satisfaction watching the three of them blart through their statements? Great that they got found out, great that their reputations have been dragged through the mud and great that they've been banned.

They said they would end careers; didn't think they meant their own.

My only disappointment is the expose' didn't happen during the Ashes.
