Brexit again...

I don’t follow this thread, so if this has been brought up before I apologise.

However, I’ve just been informed from a reliable source that the Plough Motel on Campbell Road Stoke which has basically been abandoned for months, is to become a holding area for immigrants.

The Motel rooms are to be converted, no doubt at tax payers expense, to accommodate the anticipated income of asylum seekers.

How does this information sit within the minds of Brexit Capital residents of Stoke On Trent ?

Possibly the White Helmets from Syria, refugees/asylum seekers are state funded as per UN. A UK national decision nothing to do with the EU. Not that I am a N.Staffs resident.

I guess that it's a good use for an unused building.

What part of Europe are they from?

As long as it doesn't become a hotbed for crime then I don't care what it is used for.

Apologies if this wasn't the answer some of the militant remainers were hoping for.

That's a very reasonable attitude for once!

Glad you've read and understood one of my posts for once!

I've said many times that with regards to immigration, the debate hasn't even started yet.

We can start that debate when we get full control of our borders. I don't know where I stand at the moment on net figures, whether more or less would be beneficial.

What I do feel very strongly about is that we need to control the types (in terms of skills) of people coming into the country to suit the need of our country.

That's one of the main routes to eh Bet365 stadium so don't worry. Once they realise that they'll be overrun with Lardies every other Saturday, they'll all want to go home!

Market forces will determine how jobs are filled, you don't move countries unless you are going to be better off. If a country is less friendly better deals, extra benefits, are required. As countries economies improve people no longer find it worth while to move. Just realized I have stayed at the Plough, remember an oatcake with their breakfast.

I thought that's what was happening anyway. Until someone comes up with evidence that EU citizens are coming here, long term, just to get UK benefits (my understanding is that, under present arrangements, if they don't have a job within 3 months they have to leave) then this whole 'control of our borders' argument is fatuous.

Looks like Chequers is in tatters. The doomsday scenario of no deal is looming large at this rate which will hurt us much, much more than the EU27.

No doubt the aficionados of Adam Smith economics will see this as good thing and will celebrate the potential return to a 19th century poverty ridden society of inequality. Disasterous in my book.
